Drawing with an initial speed is one of the things I advocate rather vocally if I get near the subject. It's good to see that someone else is doing the same.

I have one question- is that book you mentioned ( animator's survival kit) recommendable to drawers too? Because doesn't really sound like. or are there even any better alternative books about figure/gesture drawing?

Besides that thanks a lot for this little tutorial it has just refreshed some important elements that I have been neglecting recently.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! The part that helped me best was your tip on scribbling out the life of your subject and not measuring things first. >ω< I find it works really well!

I find that for beginning artist like myself we generally have a harder time with human anatomy. So after reading this I think it'll be easier drawing it. Thank you once again!

I usually read tutorials with a lot of drawings and stuff, but even if it has a lot of text, i Think this tutorial helped me a lot more than that ones.

I'm so sorry, I'm pretty bad an English ^^UU

Thank you so much! Now I know why I have no motivation to draw. It's because I'm trying to make everything fit perfectly! And because I keep measuring how many heads go with males and females.

So... just sketch loosely, right? Yeah, I'll work hard on that.

Thank you so much, again!

Simple and straight-forward as it is this tutorial really helped me. I've been in a pretty bad rut for a while and it'd been pretty hard to be totally happy with anything, but hopefully this loose method will help cool me down some. Not related, but this reminds me of when I was 11 or so and thought all you had to do to learn the anatomy was to read various tutorials and copy the guidelines down to the point... Oh, if only. <3

this helps SOOOOO MUCH thank-you for doing this seriously I'm taking life drawing classes and my drawings always seem to stiff D:< this helps so much really you have no idea thanks!

Kirite [2009-03-13 04:47:28 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for double comment xD, I think one of the reasons why people are so stiff when drawing people is because they're focus on end type animation type drawing? Like the finish frames of cartoons where all the lines are clean and the proportions "accurate".

Kirite [2009-03-13 04:45:29 +0000 UTC]

it disturbs me greatly that I haven't faved this yet. My mind must have been at another place.

I'm completely new to drawing I've just started last summer. I have a feeling my teacher always tried to explain this to the class but no one understood what she meant xD. Drawing people looks very expressive and fun, I'm so happy you introduce me to this concept .

Thank you so much. This tutorial is like a God Send to me. Stiffness has always been a problem, and you were right... I measured everything right off the bat.

I'm going to do these 30 second exercises and start worrying about catching the essence of life rather than the PERFECTION of life-- because there's no such thing!

Thank you again! :3

Woooweee this was a really good tutorial. You should really think about becoming a teacher. I think you would make a really good teacher.
This is pretty much what my teacher says to us, but he also stress that when we are drawing the human figure using a live model, he tells us not to copy the model, but to analyze the model and use her only as reference. ALso to over exaggerate the pose. One of things he stresses the most is form. He wants us to think about what the torso is doing.

Anyways this tutorial is really good.
I need to get the Animator's Survival kit book.

Oh thank you very much for this tutorial. :3 It helped me a lot Sasha! I need to practice at drawing fluidly and quickly. xD
I find that I take too long on JUST sketches, and this annoys me.

You've inspired me again. so I'm just gonna go out there and find some unlucky victims to draw. xD

I love you anyway.

I liked the part of how important the lines and no details itself are the most important. I guess I'll try drawing pretty fast, even though I don't have big problem with bodies, my sketch lines still suck a little.

And I love the two persons sitting on the wall, by the way : D
