Description So yeah. I have mixed feelings about this now. And that is not entirely my doing.

I made this drawing for a school assignment. We had practically carte blanche what to come up with, which is of course nice but also difficult because of that very freedom. Anyway, my teachers weren't exactly happy when I showed this. They found my drawing too childish and the drawing style was too sketchy. While I was actually pretty happy with the outcome. :/

I now have draw something else. But as you may know already, I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand, which means I can't draw with my right hand. I already did most of the colouring with my left hand in this drawing, now I have to do a completely new drawing with my left hand. I think I'm using something I already started with, though.

It's just that I don't understand why they bash so hard on this. Is it really that bad?

Magical atmosphere, her expression is just great. Delightful!
(Just read your notes - for me art is about the effect it has on others, not some objective analysis. I saw your image and dreamed I was in a boat just like your person. That´s great art for me)

Aww, thank you for that!
It was exactly what I wanted to convey with this drawing, to give the viewer the same feeling of carefree floating on the ocean.

And you are right about art. It just hurts when you're showing something you worked hard on and your teacher comments 'that this is clearly not what we expect from second-year students'.

I know the feeling of getting a low mark for hard, loving work. Anyway, you gave me joy and I´m thankful for that. Life isn´t the mark you get, it´s the people you help.

I like it. The orange tint of the sunshine goes well with the teal/blue water, and the flowers and books on the boat add a touch of personality to it. I'd guess that the "sketchy" coloring is because of your hand?

Maybe? But it doesn't look that sketchy or rough to me, so I don't really understand why they say that. I don't think if would look very different if I used my left hand. Or it's their way of trying to say to me that it's really not what they expect of a second-year student and it looks to much like a children's drawing.

I'm glad that at least you like it.
