Description
SPOILERS AHEAD FROM EPISODE 34! DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!I finished this after working on it all friggin' day. Don't you ever just feel like that sometimes? I know for the past few days I have. Anyway, I was watching episode 34 of FMA last night and got inspired to draw that picture. It's Edward's reaction after he kills Greed, his very first kill. In the actual show, it only shows him from the back falling down but I could just picture his face and what he looked like after he killed Greed. Despite the fact that it was a homunculus Edward killed, it still really tore him up because he wasn't ready to kill. It left the poor guy distraught. Anyway, this is my take on his reaction after he killed Greed. If I remember properly the dialogue was something like this:
Greed: They pull the strings, now cut them. I'm counting on you, kid.
Edward: Hey Greed, cut it out. This is a joke right? I thought nothing could kill you! You're the ultimate shield, you're indestructable! I can't kill you!
And then he grabs his head, falls on his knees and breaks down. So yeah, poor Ed. He needs a hug. Anyway, the background is the actual transmutation circle to seal a homunculus inside of. The red bits of Philosopher's Stone represent Greed's life as that is what the homunculi need to survive. Oh yeah, and his thumb is supposed to be missing on his automail arm because when he punched Greed his thumb was busted off. Well, enjoy friends ^^ and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHEESE DO NOT CALL EDWARD EMO IN THIS DRAWING. Thank you.

I know he didn't. It was never his intention, but really he had to. An event like this helped him to grow and realize what he needed to do.

That is only the second time Ed cries. When he cried the first time, the way his twelve year old face just crumples and his tears mix with the rain in that alley...

Actually it's not. From what I can remember, he cries when Nina dies at the end of episode 7, he cries at the very beginning of episode 8, right after Barry the Chopper tries to kill him in episode 8 and the very end of episode 8. He also gets choked up during episode 16 right before they go back home when the little girl steals his leg because he felt that he and his brother didn't gain anything for their sacrifices. He nearly cries when they find out the truth about the Philosopher's Stone in episode 19 I think and thinks all their work is wasted effort. He and Al both cry in Izumi's arms at the very end of the Teacher episode, then he does after he kills Greed and he's crying when he wakes up in the very last episode. S technically that was like the 6th time or something. He's a very tender-hearted boy. But yeah, it's heartbreaking seeing his face like that in the Nina ep.

You are right. I forgot about the Barry the Chopper. But, seeing your life flash before your eyes will do that to a person. I don't recall him crying in #16 though, or in Izumi's arms. (I do remember him looking a little stunned after she hugged him after beating the crap out of him) In #51, he sniffs and asks, "Why am I crying?" I think he meant, why was he shedding tears for Envy?

He tears up in episode 16 while sitting at that man's house. If you listen at the end of the Teacher episode, you can hear both him and Alphonse crying while Izumi's holding them. He cried in front of the gate at the end of ep 51 because he saw what Al was doing for him and when he woke up, he was confused and didn't know why he was crying. He wasn't wondering why he shed tears for Envy, but I don't think he remembered Al fixing him at the gate.

I have "Teacher" on DVD, and I'll have to re-watch it - and listen very closely.

Thank you so much! <3
Yeah, it wasn't my least fave, but it was really sad what happened. However we have to think of the alternatives. Greed technically did want to die because he knew if he didn't, he'd just be sealed again and he didn't want to suffer through that. Ed really did him a favor, though it tore the poor guy up.

Thats true *nods* :3 Good point.
Ah well~ I suppose it was just the way he died that kind of made it sad for me =/ And afterwards, Ed yelling: "I can't kill you!". It was heartbreaking D:
xD;;

Yeah, like Ed didn't want to bring himself to believe that he actually killed for the first time. I just felt for him so much. His cry at the end there was just heart wrenching.

Yeah ._.;;
It's amazing how some companies can really make such a depressing [[well, sometimes depressing]] anime that it actually makes it's viewers sad/upset/etc ><

Yeah, and the way Vic Mignogna pulls off Edward's voice in that whole show is amazing. FMA is the only other anime that has ever made me cry. The first time I cried watching an anime was when I watched Wolf's Rain.
