SPOILERS AHEAD FROM EPISODE 34! DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!I finished this after working on it all friggin' day. Don't you ever just feel like that sometimes? I know for the past few days I have. Anyway, I was watching episode 34 of FMA last night and got inspired to draw that picture. It's Edward's reaction after he kills Greed, his very first kill. In the actual show, it only shows him from the back falling down but I could just picture his face and what he looked like after he killed Greed. Despite the fact that it was a homunculus Edward killed, it still really tore him up because he wasn't ready to kill. It left the poor guy distraught. Anyway, this is my take on his reaction after he killed Greed. If I remember properly the dialogue was something like this:
Greed: They pull the strings, now cut them. I'm counting on you, kid.
Edward: Hey Greed, cut it out. This is a joke right? I thought nothing could kill you! You're the ultimate shield, you're indestructable! I can't kill you!
And then he grabs his head, falls on his knees and breaks down. So yeah, poor Ed. He needs a hug. Anyway, the background is the actual transmutation circle to seal a homunculus inside of. The red bits of Philosopher's Stone represent Greed's life as that is what the homunculi need to survive. Oh yeah, and his thumb is supposed to be missing on his automail arm because when he punched Greed his thumb was busted off. Well, enjoy friends ^^ and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHEESE DO NOT CALL EDWARD EMO IN THIS DRAWING. Thank you.

Seeing mistakes in your work is reasonable, even if it's good art. I see it in mine all the time...and I always wish that I could do better.

I see mistakes in my work even today, but in the past 8 years I know I have improved a lot and I will continue to strive to improve. All you can do if you want to get better is keep studying art and keep practicing. I have a long way to go, but I know I'll get there someday. Study tutorials and such. It's amazing what you will learn and how much better you'll become.ย

There's no way I can see something like this and not fave it. That scene KILLED ME DEAD. Ed!angst. . . well, let's just say that, heartbreaking as it inevitably is, it never fails to send me into fangirl-spasm-mode. 
You captured the emotion of that moment really well. There's so much anguish in his face. Also, I really like the way you coloured his hair. :3

It makes him sexier than what he is already <333 but trust me, I KNOW the fangirl-spasm-mode *goes into it with you* xD I'm really glad that you liked the picture. It was frustrating not able to see his face in that particular moment so I pictured in my mind what he might look like and just drew it lol. I'm very glad you like it ^_^

Hmmm, I partially agree with you about not seeing his face- but then, it was sort of nice being able to picture it for yourself. But you know, I always thought it would look exactly as it does in this picture, so that's cool.
Now I'm jealous. I always sweat so much over Ed's hair, trying to get it just right- and it never looks even half as good as you drew it here. ;_;

I practise a lot, but I never get Ed to look right. I've tried to draw the characters Arakawa-style, and that fails- but they look just awful in my style. D: Recently I've been copying pictures from the manga to help me.

Hahah me too! You should check out some of my stories I have on here. I have one called To Mourn which is angst-ridden. I have one that I wrote between episodes 23-24 that is Ed Angst called Fullmetal Heart Crushed. I also write another that takes place directly after ep 34 that is Ed angst too and it's called Open Up to Me ^_^ That is if you like to read angst as well. Also the story I'm currently writing that's a sequel to the movie called Anywhere but Here has a little Ed angst, but major Ed angst is coming up xD I love to draw it and write it.
That's really good! Copy manga pictures, copy anime pictures, do whatever you can to help you practice and get better. Just don't trace them. If you do that, you'll never learn anything. Another thing you can do is search how to draw human anatomy as well. Those tutorials are really helpful.

Oooh... I may just do that. :3 (Not now, though: it's really late where I am. O.O Oi...) I love reading angst too. Ed!angst or Al!angst is usually best for me, but Mustangst can be damn good too. X3 I've written quite a lot of angst in my time, as well. Most of what I write at the moment is fluff, though. ^^
Ugh. I would NEVER trace a picture. The only time I've ever traced a picture, it was my own, and I was tracing it because I'd made a hideous mistake on the original. XD; Heh. I've tried a couple of those anatomy tutorials, but I usually find that either they don't go into enough detail, or the style is just ridiculously incompatible with my own. Still, there's got to be something out there, right? :3

lol it's totally understandable. Whenever you get the time ^_^ but since you like angst, I think you'll enjoy them. Yeah, I like Mustangst too xD but not as much as Ed Angst lol If you've got some Ed Angst, I'll def read ^_^ I like writing EdxWinry fluff too
Yeah, that's the same with me. I would trace over my own drawing so I wouldn't ruin the original sketch, but that was before I got my tablet too. Even though it's not compatible with your style, you don't have to make it look exactly like in the picture, just use it and continue with it doing your own style ^_^ You'll pick it up eventually.

Sure thing~ I always like reading new fanfics. ^^ (I'll look at the rest of your art, too. :3) I haven't uploaded much of my fanfiction here though. Basically, my scanner is very very dead right now, and I don't want to annoy people by uploading all my fics and no pictures at all. 
How I wish I could use tablets... All my drawings are done in the traditional manner. Still, it does have its advantages. At least a sketchbook is portable.

Yeah, it wasn't his intentions to kill Greed. He did seem more human than the rest, considering he hadn't killed anyone mercilessly, but then again he wasn't after the Philosopher's Stone like the others. Ed cried because he was overwhelmed by the fact that he'd killed for the first time in his life and he felt guilty for doing it. He wasn't ready to kill, homunculus or not.

Its the power behind his sorrow at this point, before he cried, at this point he wailed in agony. So that mixed with the fact its great art makes this a fantastic image.

I remember when Ed had killed Greed and how he just...broke apart from the inside; I felt so sorry for him and even cried a bit

Yeah, the moment he said "I can't kill you!" and that look of horror crossed his face, my heart lept in my chest and then his cry just totally made me cry.
