Description
*****UPDATE****Since Shockwave Flash is no longer supported in browsers, this renders the original submission unviewable, unless you download it and have the desktop player. To help simplify things, however, I uploaded the "stills" of the animation in my Sta.sh to show Constable Zagnus in his working uniform, and Battle Uniform with and without the visor.
Having been inspired by artwork from fellow Deviants lujji and SevenColors-Alice regarding the No Zone Zone Cop characters, i started thinking about No Zone counterparts to my own characters.
This is the No Zone counterpart to my main character, Master Magnus. This is Constable Zagnus, a high ranking elite official who is also head of the No Zone Advanced Training Academy. He personally trains all Elite Zone Cop applicants and is the head drill inspector to ensure that all elite zone cops are in top form on duty.
I guess you could say he trained Zonic, Zespio, and Zector. The were probably considered prodigies in the academy and graduated with high honors.
He has strict, high standards and a swift hand of discipline. He's a classic drill Sargent in battle uniform, and a respectable Officer instructor in his academy uniform. He is a Teacher and Trainer, and expects that all applicants make the grade in physical ability, mental capacity, and survivability.
I designed Zagnus to carry a similar demeanor to my main character Magnus, but Zagnus is far more demanding and not quite so eloquent with his words. He is direct, stern, and tactical. He takes great pride in his work, and of his successful graduates. Also, the title of Constable is highly underused nowadays. Its not really an official rank, but more of a respected title. If it were a ranking system, Zagnus would probably be closer to a Commissioner or Chief, but Zagnus prefers to be called a Constable.
Some of the differences you might see about his design from other Zone Cops, I gave him a gold marking on his battle visor's red antennae. I figured since the antenna seemed to be used to differentiate Elite cops from other ranks and designations, a gold stripe would signify a higher ranking official.
Y'know, kind of how Officers wear brass, Enlisted wear chrome sort of thing. Back to my military roots.
I also loved how lujji and SevenColors-Alice would design the "helms" on their Zone Cop artworks to act more like a visor than a full on helmet, so I took a page from that and designed Zagnus' similar to that. Since Zagnus has a straight beak, I didn't want to give him a "Chin Strap" like the ones used by the Zone cops with an applicable muzzle. Instead, I designed the helm to have a back strap that goes behind his head instead.
His Officer uniform is pretty basic and similar to what Zobotnik and Znivley wear, but he also wears the Blue belt across his chest to signify his rank and status. Zobotnic wears the gold colored Aiguillettes from his shoulder, I figured giving Zagnus something unique would be a nice touch.
I used Adobe Illustrator to get the .swf animation to switch the helm on and off the Battle uniform version (Takes like 5 seconds or so). That was a pain to get right, and I hate the fact that it wouldn't allow me to use a transparent background. But at least it came out looking decent enough.

At first I didn't think it would move or anything o.o until I seen the visor's come off and on XD That's pretty cool. Nice character.

Yeah, it takes like, 5 seconds or so. I tried to get less time, but the flash would either flicker it, or take a long delay.
Took a long time in Illustrator before I got it down to this speed.

I was just thinking of No Zone versions of our characters the other day XD, this look great, also the way you describe him makes me think of Constable Odo from Deep Space Nine.
Secretary Zuby: Here you are Constable, the forms you requested *Hands him a data pad*. By the way Zobotnik wants your permission to go after this Lunas person. Apparently he thinks he's breaking interdimensional laws.

I guess Odo was a bit of inspiration for me, but unlike Odo, Zagnus isn't just a Security Chief. He's a Trainer and Teacher. But, maybe Odo would be like this is he was in charge of a training academy.
Constable Zagnus: Thank you, Miss Zuby. *Looks over the pad* Personally, I see no need to pursue this individual. If the Warden had done proper research, he would have found in the records that this zoner, and all his counterparts have all crossed into alternate zones of existence with little to no incident...except for that one from the pocket zone that invaded the No Zone. He'll probably spend life in his detention cell.

Zuby: Yes Zunas, he was an interesting case, Officer Zumbra still thinks he could be reformed and be an asset with your training *Looks unconvinced*.
(No Zone Lunas a criminal? Interesting lol)

Zagnus: Marz and the other correctional facilitators have exhausted their resources to try and reform that beast. Zunas seems...content with his violent nature. *Hands the pad back to Zuby* You can inform the Warden of my refusal to his request. And also, inform Officer Zumbra that his team are scheduled for inspection this next cycle. Their last inspection was less than favorable. Let him know...I won't go easy on him this time.
(I figured, they all can't be good. Marz is suppose to be Ares' No Zone counterpart. lol)

Zuby: Yes Constable *Nods and turns to leave* Oh one other thing, Nurse Zose wants to remind you your late for your physical exam again.
(Okay I really want to try a Zone Cop RP lol got some good ideas for Zunas and a No Zone Rej)

Zagnus: Bah, I'm fit as a fiddle, and those medics know I hate going through the motions. *Waved his hand gingerly* But I suppose, orders are orders. I swear those nurses take pleasure in conducting some of these tests.

Zagnus: The War going on has everyone stressed. With our numbers stretched so thin, I wonder how long until I myself must join the front line? But no...I cannot leave this post. Not while I can still train others to join the cause. The problem is many of the new recruits are not meeting the requirements, and are dropping out of the program. Not to mention, I have considered re-admitting Zet into the program as a favor to his father...

Zagnus: Zet is a rebellious personality, but he's a damn fine sniper. Despite his poor marks and disruptive nature, the force needs someone with his skill. His father has...ensured me that Zet will keep his attitude in check. I don't want to doubt the good captain's word.

I guess that's up to you. Heck, if Ares' counterpart is on the side of the cops, any "Good" guy can potentially be "Evil" in the No Zone.
