"Can you read to me?"

Dirk could read fine. He read full length novels. But he liked it when Dave read. Dave's stories were the best, and his voices were funny. That notebook was probably more important to Dirk than Cal (but he'd ever tell Cal that).

"Sure, lil man. I can do that."

He sighed, wrapping an arm around Dirk's waist and picking up the note book gingerly, thumbing through it to find where he'd left off.
He began to read, making the voices he found appropriate for the characters as he did. And for once, things were peaceful.
