Sometimes when a passerby looks
back, sometimes when they wonder
or maybe they don’t, but
sometimes they ask if I’m ok?
"How are you?"
oh, that dreaded question.
I don’t think I’m fine at all
but yet, despite my screaming pleas…
please, just look this way, see past
the societal chains that force me to smile
that bound me, my muscles
to smile, to say
"I’m fine…"

I think one of the most common lies ever told is "I'm fine."
And I know as soon as "I'm fine" goes out the mouth, there's a rule that says you have to smile. But I don't always feel like smiling. Sometimes I just want to scream. At times, I feel like I have to smile even when I don't want to... So yea...
I scared a few classmates when I was banging out the hooks....

I am in total agreement to this piece. I know when people ask "how are you?" they also expect you to lie, they don't wanna hear "oh bad day blahblahblah" they just want you to smile and say "im fine" and be on your way

Yea... Reminds of this time when I was really young and I fell out of the sled going downhill. I started crying and a girl asked if I was ok. I said no and there was the longest awkward pause

yea there is a lot of pressure to confine to a society where everyone expects to be ok (unless a bear bit off your leg, that's a different story)
