BIO

Garm

Also known as: Hound of Hell, Ol’ Fireball

Garm, named after the mythical Nordic guardian of the realm of Niflheim, was created by the greatest scientists of the world as a guardian of the people after a few too many kaiju attacks where it was found that anything any military could muster was completely ineffective against most of them. While he is not completely controlled by anyone, he will instinctively protect against any threat to humans or his monster allies. His bright white fur appearing to be splattered with blood and his eyes a deep red with a glowing yellow pupil, Garm can prevent an attack simply by intimidating his foes with his ghostly, terrible appearance and his deep, bone rattling barks and low howls.

Garm is a vicious, brutal fighter, and will pursue and battle foes until he grows too tired to continue. He his horribly stubborn and single-minded in his drive to protect, and will throw himself into the fray, even if it is against an enemy that is too strong for him alone. Mishipishew or Hatoji will often come to help him in such situations, but he has to fight alone most times.

He is a very beneficial Kaiju. Because he loves people and wants to protect them, he will try to limit the damage he does to cities and try to keep the fight out of them, but often gets too excited in his fights to be too careful. His flame breath is used as he closes in, but as soon as he gets close enough, he will start to bite with his powerful jaws and use his spikes and claws to tear, and will often forget to use this powerful weapon.

When not fighting, he is very friendly and likes to try to lure his fellow Kaiju into play. He also tends to sleep very close to human cities, and allows people to come up close enough to pet him. Taking pictures with Garm is an instant tourist attraction when he settles near a city. He might do tricks if you take him a steak or ten, but asking him to shake is not recommended.

Hatoji and Mishipishew are his greatest allies, though Mizzy is often irritated when his 76 signs get stolen by the dog. He has even teamed up with the stand-offish Iris-Ima once or twice, and the shy Proteus as well, something no other Kaiju has done. He hates Weewilmekq and Maera as much, if not more than Mizzy, and Valdesaurus’s bright coloring makes him a target for rough play. Garm might even think he is a chew toy, but no one is sure of this.

By "lock" I mean how pitbulls bite. They don't let go to bite again, just hang on and tear.

The Classes mean the attitude the Kaiju has towards humans.

Friendly means just that.
Neutral means they won't eat you or attack cities, but won't fight off attacking monsters to save said cities unless they (or any allies they might have) are attacked first.
Dangerous means they will eat you, but aren't likely to attack to get to you.
Evil means they'll eat you while laughing and ripping things apart for fun. XD

Garm (c) me (and before anyone askes-those are fur patterns, not actual blood stains.)

A heroic dog, with the mind of a . . . dog.

DUUUUUUUUUUDE!

Its so workable, its just perfect. I can hardly imagine a better model for a guardian than a guard dog.

Haha, thank ya!

I couldn't think of anything better than a dog-they love people and are easy to train to listen, even the really big dogs that, you know, could eat you. XD

Oh darn, you changed the eye color. Now I have to go and fix it lol . Aside from that minor irritation I'd say Garm is a surprisingly fun and awesome creature. A noble protector if there ever was one but not coldly stoic like a machine or pompous like a super hero. Worm Guy (Weewilmekq) seems to be a target for everyone, I wonder why Mizzy and Garm hate his guts so much, more to be revealed later I guess. Garm stealing Mizzy's 76 balls is another fun treat. I can easily see that happening.

Lol, sorry. XD

Weewilmekq...no one likes him. He tries to eat everyone, and everything, constantly, and likes that he causes pain as he feeds. He's just a psycopathic leech, basicly.

Hehe, well if a cat Kaiju likes to play with balls, then I figure a dog Kaiju would love it even more. XD

Aside from several typos ("occasionally," "stubbornness" and "incredibly") and a recurring struggle with caniine muzzle structure (which is actually limited to the primary illustration's face), this entry is too slick for my customary overdue rants to prove of much use. Garm's build is simply spot-on in primary & secondary pics alike; the lower two pics' dental details (and perspective in the head-on shot) are clever; and those optic/flamethrower effects are a treat.

Once again, a half-baked suggestion regarding Garm's firepower: perhaps the flame-stream sports a somewhat limited range (400-600 meters?), forcing him to crank out the fireballs against foes who stay out of said range for whatever reason (flight, longer-range beam weapons, etc.).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scatha-the-Worm In reply to geekspace [2009-03-08 06:56:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I'm glad that, despite the primary pics face, that this one seems like a good one.

Again, thanks for the typo catching!

And that sounds like a good idea-fire spray does normaly have a limited range, so the fireballs being prefered makes sense.

Thank you! I'm glad I'm doing alright with the sheets-I was afraid they looked a little..plain.

Haha, tha little pictures don't take much time to draw. Good thing, or I wouldn't do it, either! XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LordUzu In reply to Scatha-the-Worm [2009-02-28 01:07:54 +0000 UTC]

Nah, I think you're doing a great job with them. I mean, after all, they are reference sheets. What else could you add? Maybe a grid background to give it a more "information reference" feel? |shrugs| I think it's fine the way it is.

Haha, I can't imagine too many would take the time. I can barely stand to draw a ship now and again, much less the patience it requires to draw your artistic masterpieces ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scatha-the-Worm In reply to LordUzu [2009-02-28 23:54:01 +0000 UTC]

The grid background sounds like it would look nice, if I could figure out how to do it. XP

And I think your ships are damn cool. Masterpieces themselves.

LordUzu In reply to Scatha-the-Worm [2009-03-03 13:37:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! ^_^

And do you not have Photoshop? You could use Paint to lay the grid down, and PS to add like, maybe, a glow effect around the lines. I don't know |shrugs| I say don't try to fix what's not broke (yes, the grammar is horrible in that saying ).

Heehee. I like Garm. He sorta reminds me of my dog, only less pointy.

I really admire how you manage to dress up animal based monsters with spikes, yet the end result never looks lazy or tacked on. It's really impressive, and the end result is beautiful.

I was wondering if anyone was getting tired of the spikes I put on. I'm glad they don't seem lazy-I try to at least make them look interesting.

I'm not the best of judges, but I would say the pose where he snarls would be much better than this more passive one. If you colour Garm in that pose like this, I think it would look really fitting and even nicer.

Just an honest opinion. Other than that, very nice.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scatha-the-Worm In reply to C-Megalodon [2009-02-28 00:05:27 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the opinion! It would be more interesting that way, but the "static" poses are going to be on all of them.

You can see all of the detail and colors they have better this way then if they were lunging or snarling. More movement would mean people would look at the pose more then the way the monster is built.

great work, I like these sheets, however...

I don't like Garm's snout. When I first saw him I thought he was like the "Dark Mizzy" not a dog. So the only thing I would say is to dog up his snout.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scatha-the-Worm In reply to dudeamis [2009-02-28 00:11:37 +0000 UTC]

I know. I'm trying to make him look like one of those short snouted dogs, but I am not good at drawing any sort of canine at all, so it isn't really working.

I can't make it longer because then I would get "Wolf Monster!" comments I don't want, since he isn't a wolf.

(And he would be the "Light Mizzy", technicly. He's more heroic then Mizzy is.)

dudeamis In reply to Scatha-the-Worm [2009-03-01 07:34:15 +0000 UTC]

when I have a problem drawing things that are similar to something from nature I usually study the heck out of the natural animal. when he's breathing the fire it looks really good, so it might be just the slope of the forehead/top of the nose. But like I said, otherwise I really like it.

Why am I not surprised the dog is more heroic than the cat. So is Garm the Anguirus to Mizzy's Goji?

Scatha-the-Worm In reply to dudeamis [2009-03-03 00:10:22 +0000 UTC]

Haha, well, like I said, I did screw up his muzzle on the big pic. I can do it fine on side view, but three-quarter view? I suck at that. DX Hopefully next time, I'll finaly work out how to do it correctly.

Now that I think of it, he sort of is! Mizzy beats the crud out of him at first, but then they help eachother. Heh, I didn't even notice. Observent, aren't I?
