Added 3/27/08Ok, so, on my last Smaug pic, I asked if Smaugs red-gold description would mean a copper color, or mean he was red and gold. Neither of us knew, so I made two heads to compare.
The top head is colored with my copper pencil, and the lower is red marker.
I like the red marker better. The copper didn't work very well. >_>

I prefer the red. Smaug's pretty much always been red in my mind (other than the parts of him that are covered in gold).

I like the red marker better as well, but not by much. I do, however, think that you should change the color of the eye if you go with the red. You can barely make it out with the red color scheme.
By the way, nice work as always and - that was really fast!

Thank you! I'm gonna go with the red, but this was just a test to see which looked better. The real Smaug pic will look a bit different.
Though, the eyes are gonna stay red. The book was specific on his eye color being red. Don't worry, though. I'll find a way to make it stand out more.

Well, I think they're red...it talks about how, when he's doing his little speech, the light from his eyes "lit the hall from floor to ceiling like scarlet lightning." I just take that to mean red eyes.
Speaking of that light, I hope they do that right in the upcoming movie...oddly, that's one of my favorite parts.

Yes, I was fascinated by that in the cartoon version, but I am not sure how it will look in a live action movie.

Did the dispute between Peter and the studio get resolved - I just hope they make the movie. It really would make a better film than LOTR - I think.

I dunno if it's been compleatly settled, but I think they've actually started shooting on it already.
I don't think Jackson is directing, either. I think the guy who directed Pan's Labyrinth is, and Peter is the producer, or something. They had to start now, or New Line would loose whatever rights it had to do it.
And no argument here about it making a better movie.

Now I remember now, the last problem I heard about was with the estate Tolkien. They claimed that they had no be paid properly for the LOTR, so the were going to stop the production or something like that.
