Just a short, sketch-y, comic-y version of Smaugs Boast from The Hobbit. Because I'm odd.

Oh my, yes. Those close-up panels are exquisitely expressive, and that gloating malefic cackle is almost perfect. Nice font for the Monologue to End All Monologues, by the way.
Regarding color...the last graphic-novel take on The Hobbit I flipped through gave Smaug a pinkish-red upper body and plain gold underside. I'm certain whatever you figure out will be a skosh more interesting.

It's a coinkidink that has some basis in fact. You mentioned a Tolkien dragon, and I thought of Smaug first because I have a deep love for that character. He was one of the first roles I ever got in a play, and as such his monologue is rooted deep in my memory. Feeling nostalgic, I included it in my comment.

And I was wondering about that, too....you know, is he actually red-gold, as in the color of him would be like copper, or red-gold as in he's mostly red, but with some gold parts? Besides the encrusted belly.
