Description
*EDIT* - Wow, my first DD! Thanks to =itznikki530 for inspiring me to create this tut & thanks to ^CelticStrm-Stock for featuring it! Also, thanks in advance for your +fav as I most likely won't have time to thank all of you individually!
*View at full size, otherwise you won't see the banding & details*
Just a little something for anyone who gets frustrated with gradient banding in Photoshop. I'm sure there are other ways to fix banding, this is just the way I deal with it. It's not a cure-all, but in most cases it will work. Hope you find it helpful!

I'm also wondering about this since it seems to be a common problem and a lot of people say it's a useful fix... would anyone care to explain?

You can't see the banding either?

No, not really. Though looking at it a bit harder I see (just barely) a point where the circle and the background meet, and there is a hard edge separating the two instead of a soft blend like the end product. Is that what you mean by banding or is it something else? Because that's all I can really see as a difference between the two.

Hmm, no....the banding is within the circle, not at the edge of it. I added a (hopefully) more visible example to the bottom of the tut if you want to check it out. If you still can't see it, check out this article [link] , it has a few good visual examples of banding.
I'm wondering, are you color-blind at all? That's the only thing I can come up with as to why a few people can't see the banding.

Oh, the article cleared it up for me, and I can see it in the addition you put up in the bottom of the tutorial... but I think the banding in the original examples are just too subtle for me to pick up. I am not color blind at all, I think that this particular example didn't stand out enough for me to notice. I could see all the other ones easily.

Good, I'm glad it did the trick. It is a subtle gradient...I tried several other color combinations and this one stood out the most so I just settled on it. I tend to overdo things and didn't want to spend hours experimenting to find one with more defined banding.

Perfectly understandable, but the example at the bottom clears things up so no need to worry about it.

This is an interesting way to deal with it. My approach so far has been to convert the image to 16bit (which sometimes eliminates the banding already. Otherwise, it's either redoing the gradient or applying a blur-filter.) and use "Save for Web" to have the chance to export it as jpg or png again.
Congratulations on the DD!

I've tried converting to 16 bit but that never works for me, not sure why.
Thank you!

Y'know I've noticed the banding when I've made gradient backgrounds before. I'm definitely going to have to try this the next time I do a background.
