My equine secret santa (ess) gift for =BrokenHoofbeats ! This is the gorgeous character, Presence!I finished this a while ago but wanted to wait until christmas to add it
It is done with water color, pencil crayons, and a bit of pencil. The autumn scene was fun to do! I figured it was good to do something besides a winter scene Much thanks goes to *Equinus for organizing everything for the secret santa! I missed out last year and had tons of fun doing it this year.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions! I have a lot of trouble with reflections and water in general, I like the idea of making it more saturated. I always make my skies really light, so that would likely help tons.
I do need to draw some non arabian horses too, it's become such a habit

Your style has been refined, and your sense of proportions have become more exact. I really like the painterly way you use colored pencil, it allows for emotion to come through.
It looks to me that you still employ some watercolor to the drawing as well, which gives that extra dimension, and contrast to textures characteristic of colored pencil on a rougher substrate.
One thing you should experiment with more, is using the contrast to your advantage more, by say...using watercolor in places that need to have that void-free look; like the sky, or the water. It even may be used to create more solidity to the mane, and tail.
Creating water in motion, is one of the hardest to depict when using dry media. In this drawing it is evident. It tends to look more like a puff of dust, rather than a splash of water. Maybe doing some sketchbook studies of moving water would be great practice?

Thanks so much amanda! I'm always sort of scared to use watercolor so I should experiment more with it. And the sketching idea with water is a great idea, that never really occured to me. It's something I've been wanting to get better at drawing for a while.

Wow! I love it so much! The texture looks almost real! I could just pet her! Don't get me started on the grass! It's amazing!!! Stunning in fact! I didn't know this type of art is humanly possible! *stares at amazingly awesomnes!* The leaves look so realisticly fantasical! The water being kicked up by the majestic, long and powerful legs looks like it will spring out of the picture on soak you down! I must watch you!!!

Just gorgeous I love the colors and the background is so simple its perfect. The horse blends in just right but still stands out. I need to get money to get a commission from you, your art is becoming incredible in a year.

I can't think of a single critique thing to say about this. it's gorgeous. the colours are really vibrant, the balance between background and motion is spot on and the both horse and background look really alive
