Description
Part of a trade with =Ala-Rai of her character, Sequoia. She's made from super sculpey over wire and foil. Her eyes are teal resin, painted in pastel and acrylics, horse hair mane and tail, and clay beads and feathers.
The cutting horse pose was hard, but I think it turned out alright. It's a really weird pose to photograph though...
The color turned out well too, it's hard to see though.
I like her anatomy (this was done before lissome though) and really the only thing I didn't like was that one of her ears was a bit off centre. Luckily when I was waiting for the spray to dry I accidentally kicked her over and that ear happened to snap off soooo... fixed that issue, lol
the horse hair is hard to work with. It's much better laying flat, and on a bigger sculpture...but oh well!
She's about 5.5 inches tall to her ears.

First of all, I want to say this looks so amazing!
The colors are exquisite, and the markings are marvelous. The horse hair looks very hard to work with, which I guess is where I will start. I know there is an appeal to using horse hair as it looks more realistic, but maybe next time you might want to work with a softer material so it isn't so stiff and coarse, as horse hair usually is.
Also, I don't know if it is where it has been photographed from, or what, but the head looks slightly larger than the body.
Other than that, there isn't really anything else because I know how hard it is to work with clay, and you did an awesome job with the legs and the details.
Great job!

Thanks for the crit! I think horse hair works much better on larger sculptures, this one likely could have done better with a softer material. I think the head thing might be the angle of the photo, but I do tend to sculpt/ draw my horse's heads too big, it's something I have to be careful about
thanks a lot!

there are all types of polymer clay. Super sculpey is very common. A lot of people use it. The main difference between types of polymer clay is the hardness, some people say super sculpey is too soft and annoying to work with.

Ahhh... k. i've been looking for a clay or sculpting matewrial that would fit me best. firm, but not crumbly. most clays seem too crumbly, like after they get too dry.

I don't think any types of poymer clay get crumbly, not like a lot of air dry types. I know what you mean though, it's such a pain!

WOW!!! This turned out really well. The horsehair to me gives it a rather cool stylized look. I like how the pose turned out as well. Now on to more views!!!
