Hello! This is for ProjectComment  projectcomment.deviantart.com

It's been forever since I looked at a good watercolor painting. I must say that this is spectacular! I love the myriad of colors used. You seem to use a lot of darker colors, particularly rose red and cherry. Both hare favorites of mine.

What's so remarkable about this painting is that each of the splotches of paint form a different shape, each of which grabs the eye. The girl's dress and the sun shining on it, the parasol, the hils in the background, the bush in the front, the clouds, it's all so captivating. I love it all! And her expression is subtle, yet gorgeous. She's just happy to be outside and doing her own thing. I don't need to dig for a deeper meaning. It's clearly there. I love it!

If I had to be critical, it would be a small nitpick. Her hands aren't painted very well. It looks more like she just has spikes coming out of one hand, and the one holding the parasol can be barely seen. But it's just a small nitpick. The rest of this is so scrumptious for my eyes!

This is just beautiful! I'd say we have a winner here. You should be proud. Welcome to The List.

Thanks so much for the comment! I really appreciate the compliments

You are quite right about the hands.  They are one of those things that you notice once your are completely done and forgot to fix   I will try to be more critical of these small details next time!

Thanks for adding me to the list, I just don't know what that is

howdy i'm from Project Comment!                                                                                                                                                                              First off this art style is very lovely and quite unique i love how the girl it about to fly off away somewhere better when you look at it, it has a story to it and i love that can have something like that. The colors stick out quite a bit this is both very nice but can be a bit everywhere for the eyes i would suggest mixing 2 maybe 3 colors to it the sky is the background is really the only thing when it comes to the colors the sky would really be the one thing i would focus on first maybe mix blue and purple together but really overall i love this it does have a story to it and it is very unique i've never seen art like this before so good job on that! I want to say what i love the most is the girl and her dress it looks so lovely and she looks so happy i love the colors mix into her dress as well the red and yellow look very nice i would love to see something like this from you again! So keep up the good work man! Have a lovely day!

Thanks so much!  You picked out my favorite parts, too. The dress turned out surprisingly well.  You are spot on with the background, maybe just a little overdone? Putting another color in the sky I think would definitely draw away from the shocking red and green background, as you say.  I'll keep that in mind for next time

This art is just so fascinating.  I've never seen a style like this!  The colors and lines are all so strong and bold without slipping so far into the abstract that my tiny mind can't figure any of it out anymore.  You've brought so much movement into the piece, while simultaneously insisting on very strong, sharp boundaries that give it a photographic feeling, as though it was frozen at this exact moment and now all the colors and feelings imbued in the piece are swirling around in their confines and trying to find their way out.  I love how the different lines and shapes depicting this movement seem to contribute different senses of movement; the shadow seems to have only very tiny motions, like rippling water, while the flora in the background is all but rioting.

The only part of the picture free of those boundaries is the sky, and the way you've drawn all the lines really does make it seem that the figure is being pulled up by the sky away into that free, buoyant world.  All of that works wonderfully, and may I say that you had a tremendously good choice of colors?  They muddy just enough at the boundary between sky and land to keep the piece from feeling disjointed, while still indicating that there are two worlds, and everything is balanced precisely so that the colors don't overwhelm the eye or tire the viewer out.

Overall, my point is that everything is beautifully done.

The only constructive points that I can think of are slight changes to the composition--I would like to see a bit more of the right side of the field to help emphasize the motion pulling in the opposite direction; the end of the page seems a little abrupt--and that the part of the landscape right at the bottom where there's a little less delineating and much more delicate designs and colors melting together could be a bit larger.  I would particularly be interested in seeing that melting effect carried further up the dress, as it makes for a very interesting contrast.  I'm not sure either of these would improve the piece, but experimenting is always fun, right?

Regardless, thank you for sharing.

Wow, thanks for all that critique.  I agree with you about the composition, I also realized afterwards that it could be better, but now its too late!  The sharp boundaries you speak of come from the fact that this is based on a photograph of a woman in her wedding dress.  I am not good enough yet to do stuff straight from my head!

Have a nice day!

I really like this piece! The composition is has a nice flow to it, especially with the slightly arched pose of the woman. I absolutely love the colors you've chosen, especially for the sky. The only thing I would change, would be to tone down the colors in the background a bit. The woman, especially her dress, sort of blends in with them, as there are so many bright, similar colors. If the background were slightly more muted, she would pop a bit more. Her arm especially gets a bit lost.  I really enjoy the interesting shapes you worked into all of the peice. It looks almost like thick paint floating on top of water, almost mixing in some places. Very cool effect! The sky kind of reminds me of flower petals.

I see what you mean about the background.  Now that you mention it it is a sore eye! But I will learn for the next one!

Thanks for the input

From ProjectComment
Now this is a fantastic piece with its use of watercolor. Just looking at the picture shows quite a bit of emotions to convey it's message. Watercolor is normally administered on thick canvases which may explain the many micro holes I see when viewing this picture closely. Other than that, I can compliment on the excellent use of colors as well as the smooth transitions you did on changing the colors through brushstrokes. I noticed how you were able to hide the drips with more or alternate colors in order to make it a part of the picture itself.

The emotions conveyed by this pic are what I believe to be freedom, joy and beauty. I'm aware that you listed some of these into your tags, yet that is what I saw and felt when seeing this without having to look at the info for the first time. If didn't know any better, this piece seems to be based on a photo of a person. If that's not the case, then this is just amazingly done.

Overall, its great and I wouldn't change a thing about it. Great job.

Thanks for all your praise!  I will just point out that it is digital, so the canvas and everything is simulated, and the brush never dripped

But I am glad to hear that you got the emotions I was going for.  From the beginning I had those in mind.  It is based on a photograph, sorry to disappoint

Thanks for your input!

Don't worry about it. I had a feeling about the digital/photography thing.

It looks like a glass paint! How did you do it?

I am not sure what glass paint is...but this is digital acrylic with watercolor-type bordering, if that helps!

Ok, I don't know the English term...those windows commonly seen in churches where pieces of glass coloured differently are put together to form a scene.
Thanks for the info!

Holy begezus this is beautiful! I don't know how you did it, but I absolutely love how it sorta seems to have a painted (or stained) glass effect about it that just flows so amazingly with your color choices. The woman in the dress looks amazing and I love everything from her pose to the way you did her hair and dress. The dress design is absolutely gorgeous as well, I love how it appeared to have transitioned from yellow to red and how all the contrast behind the woman in the scenery really helps her to pop out.

Thanks!  Interesting that you would say stained glass, I don't quite see that...  But it is (basically) watercolor if you are curious!

Her dress is a Demetrios designer wedding dress, so I didn't design it, but it is super beautiful nonetheless.
