When I look up Spirit art on DA, lately I've just been seeing a bunch of "traced" screenshots.
They just take a still from the movie and remove all the color until only the lineart is left. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it gets old after a while.

Oh yeah I've definitely seen those ;o; LOL I wish I could draw good enough to look like a screenshot but my spirit style isn't quite there yet XD I DON'T KNOW HOW THOSE ANIMATORS MADE HIM SO FREAKING PERFECT

Oh, don't get me wrong; the animation from the movie is lovely. It's influenced not only my skills in horse anatomy but in facial expressions, too. Still, as I said, it's nice to see some Spirit art that isn't a carbon copy for once.
One word, my friend: practice. Goodness knows how long those guys had to study horses before they could even get started on the movie. James Baxter himself admitted that "horses are pretty tough to draw."

And they have so many moving parts, and a horse expert can pick up on an animation error in a hurry.

I've seen other animated horses where it doesn't look half as good; their legs are too stilted and they move about like machines instead of animals. At least in this movie, they did their homework.

For starter, I whole-heartedly approve of this resolution (damn, one time I had an entry to finish in, like, four hours or so, which prompted me to put on all those songs that makes me cry A LOT - total normal stuff, nothing to worry about) Second, you nailed the eerie, almost ominous feeling of the incoming storm - the purpley/blue sky contrasts so well with the golden fields, and whole lightning is just Stunning work as usual!

But in all seriousness I love what you've done with the shadows/lighting/shading in this picture. I think it matches well with the mood of the wind blowing through Spirit's mane as he stands observing the moon from the grass. Excellent job with the pose/position of Spirit too!^^
