Description I always thought I could draw just as easily with a mouse as I could on paper, but now that I've been using my stylus for just a day or two, I can't believe how stiff all my mouse-drawings once looked. It was never even close to how I draw with a pen or pencil.

It's just too bad that flash suffers from some degree of ugly, ragged lines no matter what you do, and you more or less have to draw in Flash itself if you want to use the same art in an animation, which I may as well do. I'll probably clean this up a lot more before making it a usable character model, but I'll have re-drawn everybody in a new style before I start working on the net episode, which will be done anywhere between now and Halloween. Yeah, still a procrastinator...but I also have a couple of giant SEKRIT projects to finish before I get back to my usual cartoons.

ooooh, sexy! lol.

So did she lose her hands in some horrible accident?

Did she think she needed them to better SCIENCE!

Or was.. she born with them?

I have a running theme in the cartoons (if you didn't already watch them and notice ) that all scientists have some sort of freakish mutation, cybernetic part or deformity of some kind, but I never came up with explanations even of my own...it's more fun as a mystery

lol! yeah, sometimes it is much more fun if it isn't explained. I could see someone asking her why she got them and every time something would prevent them from knowing due to the naturally occurring laws of funny.

You should do a side-by-side comparison of each character's original version, compared to their new ones.

This is a dramatic improvement over the cartoons I've seen so far (which, granted, are over a year old). A lot of that has to do with the shading and reflections. I do have to say her glasses look really zonky though.

Commenting on the character herself, does she have a real name? What's the deal with the hands? What's her deal in general? Also I think it would be funny if you made an episode where a demon or T.V. network turns her into a conventionally feminine character (to parody the B.S. with Janine Melnitz).

I've yet to settle on a first name or a set background for her, I like to keep a lot of things vague about the scientists (even to me). She's a cyborg, but it's up in the air just how much of her is mechanical. Similarly I don't think I'll ever explain how Webster became a fly or how old Professor Melancholy actually is

Wonderful! I definitely agree, the tablet is really bringing a great sense of style and life to your digital artwork. I can't wait to see how your new animations look and feel.

Also: BOOBIES!

Heh. you're getting good, I see a bright future in front of you young lad! Lemme be ya manager whatdayasay? We can make it big!

Heh Don't forget, that you can always finish the lines up with the sub selection and convert anchor point tools. Just delete a few unnecessary nodes(/vertexes/anchor points/whatever) here and there, tweak a little and it's all smooth all of a sudden.

Then again that's a lot of extra work

Despite using Flash for years now I have no idea what any of that is

I taught myself and am still learning. I only found "swap symbol" halfway through my last cartoon! (I was previously zooming in and carefully inserting symbols where the previous were)

Just clicky and experiment

Editing the nodes of a path manually really gives some wonderfully flowing lines.

You'd understand this well if flash wasn't the only vector oriented program that you ever used. Mostly because flash is the only one so hell-bound on making the user draw and little else.

And what's really good about understanding nodes and things like that is that 3d and the ability to model your creatures and perhaps eventually make a game with them is just a step(a single step in the amount of dimensions used to be precise) away from that .

erm I can't really explain this much clearer then what he said, but roughly speaking its also a good idea to clean up your points because it will lower your file size.

in vector graphics (majority of what flash uses unless you import an image ) the brunt of the data size comes from how many points are being used to define your shape.

when you free hand draw flash TRIES to interpret what you did and lower the total number of points its using. the interpretation is what causes it to jaggy.

you can use one of the tools (its one of the ones that look like the arrow pointer, forget which) to select the individual points, and you can then delete those. fiddle around with these tools and try and get a feel for it, you will be able to improve the look of your flash animations AND lower their file size a bit!

hehe flash is a surprisingly 'good' vector based free hand drawing tool, nothing else I've seen compares for that clean value look.
