The "Gateway Arch" of Volterra goes back to the period between the fourth and third centuries BCMade of different materials and construction techniques, a sign of many changes that occurred over the centuries, the port has a cover stone arch, decorated on the outside wall of three sculptures in the shape of human head. The posts are made of blocks of sandstone and are dated to the fourth century. B.C.
The three heads and bow were instead made between the third and second century. a. C. is one of the most famous architectural monuments of the Etruscan period of this city.

The door leads to the medieval center where there are many shops alabastro, it is true. The Roman theater is on the other side of the wall

the first walls, the Etruscan period, remained in use until the early Middle Ages, and even during the Roman rule
