Description
I'm working on character profiles for my screenplay/manga series Flock of Ravens. I discovered that it's a lot easier to convey the character's personality if you dram him/her holding an object of some sort (since no two people will ever hold something the same way). It might not work for everyone, but I think it's a good method... and it makes the image more interesting >_> Anyway, when I uploaded the inked version of this (now in my scraps), I said I was going to do a huge full background with this image... and I still am. But this is the character profile piece, which is all I originally intended to do. Now that all of that is cleared up, here's the character information:Name: Vivian de Moy
Born: 895*
Died: 908*
Background: She is a quiet, cold-hearted ghost that lingers in the cemetery inside Oβshyild Forest. Vivian was the child of a woman accused of witchcraft and her spirit has been sealed away in her motherβs paintings, preventing her from resting. (13 years old)
The poem I used is "The Same," written in 1783 by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. You can find it here: [link]
Brushes and textures are not mine. The texture is by and the brushes are possibly from Celestial Star... I can't remember >_>;;
This is my first real painted image, so I'm looking for critique/suggestions... anything ;_; Right now, I'm very happy with the image, but I know I'll look at it a couple days from now and hate it...
*About the dates, everything is set in a fantasy world, which has its own timeline/intricate history n' all.

Oooh~ Goethe as in the author of Faust/Faustus right? Ever since hearing a band named Kamelot who did two albums telling that story, I've been intrigued.
Anyway... love the dress and nice use of brushes and texture.

Yep. The one and only^^ I've loved Goethe's work ever since I read Erlkoenig in my German class.
And thanks

I've only read summaries of Faust. I hear there aren't really any good translations.
....I need to learn German. I'm German (northern swiss actually; same thing. lol). I SHAME MY HERITAGE BY NOT KNOWING GERMAN! lolz I'm crazy too. =d

lol, I'm Italian, but the only Italian I know is what I've learned from watching the Sopranos XDDD;;
And good translations are hard to find. I've read Erlkoenig in German and then a couple of the English translations, and they're so different. They change a lot just to make stuff rhyme, but then the meaning of the poem also changes.

Yeah. I'd rather read it not rhyming so I can get the meaning. =/ I found a site with the entirety of Faust posted on it. I've yet to read it, unfortunately.

the sheen on the hair strands makes it look like she's got gray hairs.

I know. I used grey strands... I don't know why though... Probably should've used black.
