Click "Download file" to get the tutorial as a .RAR file

And this works in the digital media as well, if you have a tablet installed.
I was asked a few times how to do it, so.... I answered
TL;DR: just look at the pictures XD I tried to make it so that people could get the idea from just reading the big titles and looking at the illustrations.
I kind of envied the people who made those pretty tutorials with an actual design and stuff... my former tutorials were a visual fail =_=
So I gave it a try with relevant drawings from my gallery (hair and all XD) and these super-awesome brushes which I noobishly used.

hmm.. basically you need to hit "download" on the top right side of the page, and open the file using winRAR.
however, if for some reason you can't, you can view it on dA, here~ [link]

if you manage to figure out the movement, it should work but it might be challenging, you should practice the strokes on a separate piece of paper before trying them on a drawing. I always do that when I change my tools.... since this is practical with almost anything, unless it's really dull (it even works for me with crayons and pastels
)

you do the same with a light pencil and weak strokes it's possible, once you get the hang of it. it's easiest if you use a pen for an outline, and a pencil for the hair - then you see the tone difference more. however, it's possible with just a pen as well - here is an example: [link] . if you want it even light you just need to make the strokes even weaker (or a bit further apart)
hope I helped

Oh how neat! C: You seem to have a good grasp on defining hair strokes, as well as drawing the hair so it flows.
The one tip I'll mention is that you should probably do some light source shading in the hair. Here, I'll explain that better, haha.
The way you shade the hair defines shines well, but it looks like the light is coming from everywhere at once. You may not want to focus so much on the highlights- and try shading and then highlighting. As I noticed, you do sketch where the highlights are, which is great \o/ Try sketching where the shadows would be, then shading them in with your darkest color, then fleshing out the rest of the hair with a lighter color then the shadows- of course keeping the highlights white, haha. To remember where your lightsource is coming from, try placing a small round object (like a coin) in the corner/along the edge of the paper where the light is supposed to be coming from. It really helps to serve as a good reminder \o/
Hope that helped OTL
Again, you've got a good concept on hair and this tutorial was explained well C:

thanks, this helps a lot
I'm having trouble with placing shadows, I'll admit. super-shine usually works for me, but that's 'cause I'm such a lazybum...
I'll definitely give that a try.

Shadows are super tricky to get right. I'm obviously still learning with them, haha. Hopefully the small object trick works for you! <3

Interesting tips, gives me some ideas, despite me being a digital artist as opposed to traditional. Looks like I can still imitate the look once I figure out the right techniques.

If you have a tablet installed, you can do pretty much the same
I use this method for hair even digitally (though I don't make a lot of digital pieces...)
I'm not very good at it because I lack practice, but here are some digital results for demonstration - [link] [link] [link] (just ignore the poor proportions/coloring and look at the hair )
