This is a really stupid question. I've been obsessed with anything Dynastes, mostly because of their little bangs in their face. Is their fur actually soft?

Nope, just the macro setting on the Nikon Coolpix. I have a digital rebel but I have been rather fond of the macro capabilities of my little point and shoot.

Oh wow what a nice photo. I like how the beetle's shell has that wet shiny look and
I like how all the focus is on the beetle's head and not the rest of the photo.

Thank you! I hope to take some more pictures of this species in the future. We are trying to set up a spot at work that will have better lighting for photos.

Thanks! That species is my boss's favorite to keep and breed. I prefer the more active cranky animals - like ground beetles ... but maybe that says something about my personality
