Since this is a sanded surface, I am able to work dark to light. I do one section at a time to near completion with a *very* light hand to allow as many layers of color to build up as possible. I also only draw with tight circles rather than long strokes of the pencil.

Its made by a company called Art Spectrum, and its hot press watercolor paper coated with a gritty, colored primer.

Thanks Brian! I need to recover from this one before I attempt anything else in this vein - that basket nearly killed me with its repetitiveness, hehe. But yeah, definitely will be revisiting this sort of thing in the very near future.
