Description "Go ahead and pick your seats."

It was Carrie's first day in her final grade 12 class. Although she had graduated six weeks prior, she had been determined to take one extra course. This course would hopefully help prepare her for the future she wanted, becoming a mother once she had found the right guy and her schooling was done.

"Nice to see you again Carrie," her teacher, Catherine, said with a smile.

"I told you I'd be here Catherine," Carrie replied, returning the smile.

The students began to file in and Catherine started the day by introducing herself to her class and then allowing each student to tell the class about themselves. It took until first break before the entire class had a chance to speak. It was a telling time and rather enjoyable for Carrie. She always loved to find out about the people she would be stuck in a classroom with for 4 hours a day. It struck her as odd that there were a few students in the class that seemed reluctant to share, one girl who sat two seats to Carrie's left barely said her name and told the class that she loved to listen to heavy metal before she went back to drawing in her notebook. Another girl just said her name and put her head back on the desk.

Class resumed after break and continued on until 12:30. Nobody really spoke to Carrie that day and she was okay with that. First days were always hard on her; she was exhausted and really couldn't wait to get home. When she walked in the door she was greeted by a barking dog and the knowledge that her boyfriend at the time, Demon, was still up in bed. Hurrying up the stairs, Carrie nearly tripped over her cat, Isis.

"Silly cat," she said bending down to pick up the young cat before continuing up to the room she shared with Demon.

Carrie put her bag down and lay on the bed next to Demon. Feeling the extra weight on the mattress, Demon rolled over and curling into her woke up. Carrie giggled but couldn't help hugging him back.

"Welcome home, how was class?" he asked still half-asleep.

"It was class, I'm tired though. It's nap time."

With that, Carrie curled up next to Demon and fell asleep. She was so tired that she didn't even feel Demon get up. A couple hours passed before Carrie awoke to Demon playing his xbox 360.

"Hey sleeping beauty," Demon said once he noticed her awake.

The two had been together for several months now and Carrie was used to waking up after class to Demon playing his video games. He was unemployed and lived with his parents. Although she wasn't too happy about the living conditions she was just thankful that they had opened their home to her as well when she needed a place to live. She was starting to question Demon's goals in life though. He was always just playing video games or wandering around town. He wasn't looking for work and he wasn't going to school. These things were starting to really get to her, she didn't like lazy people. It also didn't help that people around town were telling Carrie that he was cheating on her.

"Look D, we gotta talk. Things between us are becoming redundant and boring. I love you but I can't live like this anymore. You're not looking for work and I'm being told every day by more than one person that you're cheating on me. I can't keep putting up with this. We agreed that I'd move in and continue to go to school to get my diploma and you'd look for work. I haven't seen you do that at all since I've been here. It's been five months, Demon, and I've seen you play video games or chill at Timmies all day," Carrie said, trying not to yell and cry.

Demon just sat there looking like he'd been slapped in the face. Carrie usually kept quiet about things that were bothering her but now she just openly attacked him. In his eyes he hadn't done anything wrong but to Carrie everything he was doing was wrong. She couldn't stay there and watch him waste his life with video games and coffee, which is why she picked that day to confront him.

"I'm not cheating on you, whoever told you that lied. And I have been looking for work but there is nobody hiring here in Lindsay. It's a dead town, no jobs and everyone is either on welfare or disability. What do you want from me?" Demon snapped.

"I want you to try harder. Timmies is always looking for staff, and you spend enough time there. I'm giving you a week for this to change, that includes people telling me you're cheating because otherwise I'm gone and I won't be coming back," Carrie said before getting up and going into the bathroom for a much needed hot bath.
Demon was hurt by her words but didn't follow Carrie. He really wanted to keep her around but he wasn't ready to grow up just yet, he was still having fun and living life like a teenager. A week wasn't enough time and he knew it so he told himself he wouldn't even try. He also knew that the rumors about him cheating on her were true but he couldn't admit to it.

Carrie stepped into her hot bubble bath and tried to clear her mind. What she had said had hurt Demon but it had also hurt her too. She didn't want to walk away from their relationship but if things didn't improve she didn't have a choice. Carrie had goals and she didn't want to put her life on hold while Demon tried to figure things out. Her close friends had all told her that he was holding her back even if he wasn't doing it consciously. Originally the plan was once she graduated she'd apply for college and start in the fall but once she started seeing Demon, Carrie said she wanted to wait until he was done probation.
                    *********************************************
The week passed quickly and Carrie saw no changes. She went to school, came home and found Demon sleeping. She was disappointed, it was almost like he didn't want to change and that he didn't want to keep her around. She'd decided that afternoon to call her parents and ask if she could come back home until she had finished her classes and applied for college. Once she had received their permission, she started to pack her things. She was quiet so she wouldn't wake Demon and have him start a fight or stop her from leaving.

An hour passed and she had everything packed and down at the front door waiting for her mom. Demon was still out cold and his parents were nowhere to be found. As the blue car pulled up, Carrie opened the front door and began to load her belongings into it. Her mom helped but couldn't do much since she was sore from work. It took no time at all to load up the car and double check that she had everything. As she was closing the front door, Carrie heard Demon yelling for her and asking her to wait that they could talk things out. Paying no attention, Carrie continued to shut the door and got in to the car.
