Description
Pansypaw laid in camp, her tail neatly tucked against the chilly wind of autumn. She was waiting patintly near the enternace of camp next to a warrior she hardly knew- his name was Mintstreak, as he had rather kindly introduced himself. Of course, toms made her incredibly nervous, but she felt very little.. 'manlyness?' from him. He seemed unlikely to hurt her, so she simply tried her best to stay still while waiting for her mentor.

The dark grey warrior came walking up with the rest of their hunting patrol, and Pansypaw realized that she was the only apprentice. Swallowing, she got up and touched her nose to Ashtail's as she examined the other two warriors from the corner of her eye. One was a brown and white striped tom and the other a golden female with rather bright emerald eyes.

They were introduced to her by Ashtail who identified the tom to be Vinewing while the she-cat was named Emberlight. She bowed respectfully to both before they all set off, Pansypaw next to Ashtail and silent. They walked along, the toms joking around with one another while Emberlight sullenly padded along in the background, smirking every once in a while.

They arrived at the river after not too much time and Ashtail took her to the water, carefully instructing her to refresh her memory on stalking and catching fish. She had done it a few times, but the reminder was welcome. After she had told her mentor that she was okay, he laughed and patted her on the head with one paw, smiling at her before he went off to see if he could catch anything himself.

Positioning herself on her haunches, pansypaw gazed into the pool of water, her whole body stiff yet relaxed as she became as still as the rocks and leaves themselves, her form blending into the world as if she'd always been there, crouching but never to pounce. A little bit away, she heard Emberlight make a comment about how freaking cold it was, and Pansypaw smiled a bit. It certainly was. She also heard Mintstreak tell the she-cat to focus on fishing rather than complaining- that earned a stifled chuckle from Vinewing.

A splash to her left alerted her that Ashtail had at least tried to catch something. Her mind distracted by that, she nearly missed the flash of silver deep near the muddy bottom of the river. Unthinkingly, Pansypaw plunged her head and paw into the water, aiming for the creatures shadow in a half-second. She felt her extended claws contact the soft flesh guarded by sharp scales before she pulled upwards, dragging the unwilling creature from it's home and flinging it onto the rocks behind her. The ebony apprentice giggled and killed it with a bit just above it's dorsal fin.

Looking to the side, she saw Ashtail wink at her with a smile, the pride probably evident on both of their faces. her mentor told her to bury the poor wretched creature somewhere so that it wouldn't get snatched by a hungry raptor and, bouncing away, Pansypaw complied.
