[EDITEDIT] I hope I didn't make it worse. This is loads different that it was a few minutes ago. Sorry to swamp you guys, I do appreciate the help. How's the left hand now? changed his left leg again.[/EDIT]

[EDIT] Now what's wrong with it? Here's the pic I uploaded last night. [link] Hopefully I fixed at least something I did my best to take pictures of myself, but it's kind of a two person job lol [/EDIT]

First off, The first problems you see, TELL ME HOW TO FIX. PLEASE. I see them, but I've been messing with it for so long I'm not sure how to fix them. It's just one of those problems that got worse and worse and now it's difficult to fix. Figured I'd post it so I could get as many opinions as I could.

Note: I hate perspective. I want to punch it in its presumptuous face.

Also, important to know. I took this and modeled it in Maya and posed it all out, and it's right technically but it's something subtle that makes it look wrong. Again. please tell me if you can see the problem. Pleeaaasseeee. Redrew that leg twelve times at least.

Do it for Tivadu! He's a nice dude. He deserves the best I can do.

Remarkable! I know I commented on this months ago, and I don't quite remember this being any different than what I saw then. I still love love it, though. If anything, it's even better than I remember! Should have +faved this back then. Impressive work!

I'm not an expert on humanoid anatomy by a long shot, but I thought I'd try to help a bit. |D
[link]
Things I noticed:
Some things I noticed where that his spine is very flexible. A bit too much to be natural. So I just tilted his pelvis slightly. I also brought his tail up some because it seemed a bit low.
I've drawn his left hand so much further down because where you've placed it, it seems to imply a very short arm (not forearm). Angle of the head is just preference. Technically, how you've drawn it is correct, I just found it a bit too close to straight on, so I angled it more towards profile.
The legs seem strange and unbalanced, but I'm not the one to help you with that, I don't think. I hope that all made sense and at least helped a bit. I'm terrible with words. Pfft
I wish you good luck, though. This is a very nice piece as it. I love the contrasting color of the eyes and the natural pallet of the environment. You're very good at painting fur. uvu ♥

Definitely agree about the tail and back end bit, just haven't had time to sit down and fix it. As for the rest of it, now that it's different, you think it's working a little better than before?

Woah - okay. Major change! XD Let's see...I like both versions for different reasons. This one is definitely more balanced, though I think you put more heart into detailing and finishing in the other version! x3 But I honestly like both of them.
Perhaps the only thing that I can add that may (or may not) help both versions is that, being someone who loves story, I am not sure what he is doing, and it bothers me. If he was, say, looking at something small and colorful in contrast, like a hummingbird or butterfly, that would explain his sudden-stop/swift motion. That would also help, I think, with some of the errors - if there's other things to draw the eye, the errors are much less noticeable.
Best of luck, and I still think you did a wonderful job either way!

This is definitely my favorite anthro picture on DeviantART.

I still like the other version better, The perspective made it different, Seems he was going forward, then noticed something off in the distance, Therefore turning his upper Frame to the side to see it then his whole body. But either way, I still love the art.

It's super fascinating to see how much this is changing, I don't think I would have the patience/courage to delete such huge chunks and start over with them. p: I think this version looks much, much better than it did before - but to me, the arm closest to the viewer looks way too long and curvy. Instead of coming toward the viewer, it just seems to stretch way back and curl a bit unnaturally. Since foreshortening is a horrible weakness of mine, I can't give you very specific advice on how to fix it - maybe shorten the forearm and bring the hand up a bit? Not sure, sorry. If you're not intending for it to come toward the viewer... well, it still seems a little long and unnaturally bent?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shapooda In reply to SycamoreSea [2012-07-12 20:29:58 +0000 UTC]

aww thanks - and i see what you mean, I think his arm is just a smidge too long. His fingertips should reach the middle of his thigh and I think right now they would reach his knee lol Not a difficult fix

Kazeii [2012-07-12 20:21:44 +0000 UTC]

I have to say I think the little finger on the left hand is bent a bit much. Not at the middle joint, at the base of the finger where it joins the hand. It's anatomically possible and common, definitely, but not the most practical. And the whole werewolf seems to be leaning back and sort of defying gravity. If you moved the left leg farther up the frame, it would make it seem more like he's about to jump and less OMG I'M ABOUT TO FALL. Right now it sort of seems like he's slipping, yanno? Like he didn't get a good enough grip with his left paw.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shapooda In reply to Kazeii [2012-07-12 20:31:34 +0000 UTC]

I definitely agree, I just noticed that now. I hadn't thought to move his leg up more, but I do see what you mean. He does still feel off balance. I wonder if stretching his leg straighter could also fix that?

Kazeii In reply to Shapooda [2012-07-12 21:14:28 +0000 UTC]

Then it would look like he was doing the cool slide you see in martial arts movies, you know? When they skid and then they sort of drift and turn? /bad description

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shapooda In reply to Kazeii [2012-07-12 21:22:30 +0000 UTC]

I stretched his leg out. If I were better it would look awesome, but now it serves the purpose of balance and ... movement? lol IDK

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kazeii In reply to Shapooda [2012-07-12 22:13:29 +0000 UTC]

Another thing, I think at this angle we would see more of the top of his shoulders. The hollow between his collarbone and his trapezius. That's only if he's standing straight, but right now it looks like he's sort of... leaning to his left. Toward the top of the painting. Again with the about to fall thing. That's why I was thinking move the leg up instead of straight, so he seems a bit more balanced. God knows I'm not too good with this stuff though XD
This is a secondary thing, but he also seems sort of twisted. We view his legs sort of from above and kind of a three-quarter angle, then his torso from an almost-perfect side view, and then his head is coming around again
Okay so in the middle of that rant I got tired of writing and illustrated a few different possibilities. Here's the drawing: [link]
Figure Zero: This is your painting as it stands.
Figure One: This is a rotation of the pose as it's interpreted through your painting. Notice how he appears to be standing on a hill. Also notice my bullshit drawing skills.
Figure Two: This is what I would do with it if I felt like repainting the whole thing. FIGHT SCENE TIME. This is that slidy martial arts pose I was talking about with lots of badly done perspective. I straightened the leg in front and brought the other one more behind him, giving him a wide, solid fighting stance (wide stances are great for lending your character stability if the center line falls directly between the character's legs).
Figure Three: This is basically a rotated version of your drawing with a few tweaks. Something tells me that if I hadn't forgotten to un-rotate his bloody head after I rotated the rest, it would look a lot better. I also brought up his left leg and tweaked the rotation of his right. If you were to do something like this, you would also need to change the position of his arms (obviously).
Hooray for long, supremely unhelpful comments...

I didn't even notice to be honest, the feet were the big thing for me, in the first version they appeared to be floating.

Shapooda In reply to Wandering-Serenity [2012-07-12 20:16:53 +0000 UTC]

I noticed that too. Figured the snow would give under his weight and it would probably be a good idea to use it.
