Wow, what a fun journey you are on, discovering this show for the first time! This is a great picture. I love all the colours, and it's especially interesting seeing such a colourful view of a scene that's bleaker in the original. Love how you did Appa's eye and Aang's calm expression!

Hahaha I am so glad you wrote because I cannot even articulate how much I am LOVING this show, and it ended 6 years ago so I am dying to talk to someone about it. I am watching the last 4 episodes this Thursday with some buddies.
I think it is one of the true great imaginative tales of our generation. I think it will go down in history with greats like LOTR and Harry Potter for sure. It certainly deserves it! Very strong characters and a compelling story; it has staying power. Also, Aang is one of the best written heroes I have ever seen! He's got this great blend of feminine and masculine qualities that are usually absent from male protagonists. He's quite unique. :3

I feel you! It's a fantastic show. I watched it back when it was on, but then it changed times on Nickelodeon so I never saw the end. Two years ago I sat through and watched the whole series from start to finish and haven't been able to get enough ever since!! You are right, the characters are phenomenal on this show, and the development they each go through is fantastic! I know, Aang is so different from a lot of main characters. He's really great. Korra is a great sequel too, although it's quite different from Avatar so it takes getting used to. (I made the mistake of watching the first episode of Korra the same day I watched the last episode of Avatar, and I wouldn't recommend that, because I didn't given enough time for the Avatar finale to sink in.) It truly is one of the great imaginative tales of our generation!

I am kind of glad I found it now, because I don't think I could have handled waiting between seasons. Especially after the Season 2 finale!
I took your advice and took a bit of time before trying out Korra. It is so different! Very good in it's own way, but very different. I think it will grow on me for sure, I just need to give it more time. I took to A:TLA right away and I think that's what makes Korra hard to digest. Constantly being reminded that Aang is dead is a bit of a bummer, lets be real. XD But seeing his family -- Tenzin and Katara and his grandchildren is unbelievably sweet.
Have you seen the comics at all? I just bought some on Amazon. Apparently they canonically carry on A:TLA series, so I'm stoked for that. ^_^

Haha I know right, it makes waiting for Korra episodes harder -- "All of Avatar is on Netflix right now, why can't I just watch Korra too?!" I agree, at first it was quite strange watching Korra, and I kept missing the old characters, but you're right -- it does grow on you. And now for me it's right up there with Avatar, believe it or not!! I love whenever they show people/things from the old series. (And they're quite gradual about revealing more of what happened to different main characters; there's still stuff we don't know but are going to find out soon... but no spoilers! )
I read synopses of a lot of the comics on the Avatar Wiki, so I know what happens in some of them, but I haven't read them yet. I plan to, though! (It sort of happened on accident that I read the summaries; I was looking up a certain loose end from the series and found there was all this new info... but again, no spoilers!!! )

Hey! Sorry for the late reply, just spent the latter part of August moving. XD Fun times.
Also, I finished watching book 3 of Korra. O_O
HO-LY HELL! Right up there with Avatar indeed! The last three episodes of book 3 had me literally on the edge of my seat/crying/panicking/overwhelmed with the greatness. Hahaha! The shout-outs to the old crew are always touching, too. I am dying to see more about them after the end of the 100 year war! But in regards to Korra, now I'm burning with curiosity about Toph and her back story! That's all I'm gonna say in case someone spies spoilers.
I just started reading the first collection of comics and it's wonderful. Everyone is completely in-character, it really feels genuine. Can't wait to have them all!

Honestly, I would put it up there with LOTR and Star Trek (both which I love very much) in terms of story and characters. I think the show is such a quality story with strong characters that will definitely stand the test of time!

Yay! The last four episodes will blow your mind again and again and again. Not saying anything else.
And that is actually so true. I see little kids getting into Avatar the Last Airbender even though it is not on TV anymore. I think it is also the fact that we get to watch the characters grow. I remember watching it when I was little as new episodes came out when it was still on TV and in production. I kind of grew up with Team Avatar which makes them all the more important to me.

Awww you are so lucky to have grown up with it! I grew up with Harry Potter (I know, showing my age here now, right? ) so I can totally understand your bond with the characters. Myself and my boyfriend started watching this show as a recommendation by one of my very good friends and we just got HOOKED. And we're all in our twenties, so I guess that just goes to show what a varied audience it attracts.
Adults and kids alike are still getting in to it years after it's done. It certainly has staying power!

I know! 90s kids are the luckiest
Awe awe it's adorable that you two watch it together! And the show definitely does have power! My high school english teacher spent her spring break watching the entire series after we forced her to watch the TERRIBLE movie. She wanted to know what we were talking about and why the movie was so bad. (I honestly don't know how we managed to convince her to spend class time to watch a movie so irrelevant to what we were learning. We did end up writing an essay on why we disliked or liked the movie though, so I guess it evened out.) Safe to say, she came back in April and was the biggest fangirl ever. She had theories about the future of the characters, who they ended up marrying, how civilization progressed, past avatars and so many other things. It was amazing LOOL

Yeah, he was watching it idly at first. Then he started asking if we could watch it together and I was so happy. He's got great taste. XD He became very invested, as I did. Iroh particularly made him very emotional. I cried like a baby at Zuko and Iroh at the end. But that bit where he visited his son's grave? I was such a hot mess when I watched that. Cried like a baby. LOL!!
That is so cool that your teacher watched the film in class! I watched half an hour into it and was heart-broken. The casting was not very conscious of the diversity shown in the real show. I think worst of all though for myself was Aang. The actor simply did not have that fun-loving, wistful, cheery and child-like wonder with the world that Aang's character usually brings. It felt so dead and flat.
I have watched it all now and am excited about seeing Korra, but I am going to buy all the comics. I'm not ready to leave that world yet!

I watched the first episode when I was about 8 and I was hooked for life. Oh gosh Iroh and Zuko made me sob so hard and so did the scene when Iroh was mourning his son and singing to him. Ah! Just perfection! So much love in all those scenes!
I really disliked the whole movie and everything about it (sorry not sorry to all the people who worked on it.) It was too rushed, it missed a lot of the most emotional scenes and as you mentioned, made all the characters seem really flat. It was not even close to par for me.
I wish there was a place that sells the comics near where I live! I've searched in all the book stores in my city and never did I ever find even one copy. If I ever wanted one, I'd have to buy it online and pay for shipping or get an e-reader and digital reading isn't my thing. I prefer books. Korra is action packed almost right from the second episode, it is great! Sometimes a little too dramatic, but that makes it all the better Hehe, you will never be ready to leave their world, it sucks you right back in, just when you think the pull is weakening. Waiting is totally worth it too, because it makes the anticipation that much greater and makes the episode seem like it fell from heaven. Oh no, I'm rambling! Sorry, my love for the show does that...

Seriously, Iroh kept me bawlin' like a baby. The show has so much heart, and I find that kind of sentimental tenderness largely void from a lot of new tales that unfold in our generation. There is great focus on action, gore, sex -- adult themes-- but really, just because I'm an adult doesn't mean that those themes cater to me or make a good story at all. They don't. Everyone loves a story with heart: be it romance, family, or friendship, and A:TLA has plenty of that.
The movie I am still trying to sway my sweetheart to watch with me. I'm the kind of person who if I get totally invested in a story, I want to see all its incarnations (like Sherlock or Lord of the Rings). He's concerned about seeing it as he doesn't want to see the characters cheapened. I can understand that! I saw roughly half an hour of the movie and had to stop. I was taken aback by how bland Aang was. He seemed so serious, like Tenzin. Wrong airbending kid, guys. XD
I have to buy the comics online too. I am here on an island so we barely get a scattered sci-fi convention, and there are only 4 comic book stores on the entire island. Agk!!
I am enjoying Korra but I still want to whet my beak more with Aang's story. So much could have happened in those 70 years, I hope they keep going with the comics! I am totally sucked in!
And don't even worry about going off on a fangent. I'm loving it. As I said, I am stuck here on an island that's pretty small, very tiny geek culture, and this show is 6 years old so lets face it, I ain't finding Avatards locally to chat with!

Oh gosh, Iroh was one of my favourite characters! Everything about him made him so down to earth and believable and he represented all of the good in the world! The happiness that comes from overindulging on things from time to time, being happy with what he looks like and acts like no matter what others think of him, and the way he believes in the good of people and treats them all so fairly. And when the time comes around, loveable soft Iroh can turn into one serious you-better-not-mess-with-him leader and fighter!
That's great that you are trying to convince him! The movie did make me feel cheapened, but not about the characters, rather about the two hours I spent watching the movie And they did definitely get the wrong generation haha! I love the way you look at things!
Oh no! Well where there is a will, there is a way! I hope the comics satisfy part of your need for more, but really the need never ends because the creators are so good at what they do, they can drag people back in, just when they think there is no more to learn.
I think they give a bit of time to the past in Korra, but they really want to focus on the present time, so only flashbacks that are important are shown. Where are you in Korra? I just finished the book 3 season finale, but shalln't say my feels if you are not there yet.
YAY! My rambling is loved You've always got your sweetheart (: I love the term Avatards though! I haven't heard that one before!

Sorry for the late reply, just got finished with moving and am settling in at my new place. XD Wheeeee!
Seriously, I wish I knew Iroh. I get all choked up whenever he shows up. My boyfriend gets a real kick out of how emotional I get over Iroh, but he's a sucker for it too. He gets misty-eyed when I sing "Leaves from the vine . . ." That scene really had an effect on him! The two of us start in with the waterworks every time we see it.
But you're right, he's not to be messed with either! Him getting pumped in jail, then the bit with the white lotus at the end? OoO GOOD GOD. I wouldn't want to be the person who has to fight Iroh.
I'll admit, I still haven't seen the movie yet. Maybe if I get desperate enough once I'm done reading the Avatar comics I will reluctantly pull up to that trough, but I'm not ready to eat the cat poop yet.
As for Korra, I finished book 3 a little while ago. HOLY HELL! O_O What a rollercoaster! I was crying, cheering, panicking, being taken aback by the sheer awesomeness . . . Jinora! Oh God, what a treasure.

Congrats on the new place! A new place means a great few rounds of hide and go seek since no one knows where the hiding places are >: D (This is my ritual whenever we move to a new house. Childish? Yes. A whole lot of fun and totally worth it? HUGE yes!)
Yay, I'm not the only one! I have it on my ipod and whenever it starts playing, it doesn't matter where I am, I start crying. That scene was so beautifully done, kudos and a standing ovation to the creators.
Iroh totally rocks everyone's socks off. No one ever sees it coming either because they see him as the lovable, jolly, and fat old man who they think is just a bit of an extra. Boy, are they ever wrong
Don't spoil it for yourself! But at the same time, the curiosity will drive you nuts if you don't see it, so do whatever you feel is right in your Avatar loving heart.
AHHHH YOU FINISHED KORRA!!!! FANTASTIC!!!! THIS IS GLORIOUS!!! Oh my god, the third season finale killed me because I seriously thought that it was going to be the end of the Avatar. I almost died. I swear. Too many feels. Every episode of Korra is so action packed that it blows my mind over and over and over again. And oh my god, I've never seen so many people die in a season finale from the Avatar world. It made it all the more real. AND JINORA MY BABY IS SO GORGEOUS IN EVERY SINGLE WAY. She starts out as such a relate-able character because she is that shy, bookworm kind of girl, but when the time comes, Jinora can seriously kick butt! HOLY. She has her amazing spirit talent, her great airbending skills, and amazing morals! NOT TO MENTION THAT SHE HAS SAVED KORRA'S LIFE AND THE WORLD TWICE NOW!!!!! SHE IS SO PRECIOUS AND AMAZING!

Hahaha! That ritual sounds amazing. I've never thought of that.
I can't even handle the greatness that was the finale. It was legit warfare!
The Red Lotus were terrifying. I had no idea who was going to make it out.
It seemed like it was no-holds-barred, anything goes.
I cannot even imagine how powerful Jinora is going to be as an adult.
She truly channels Aang's essence. She just steps up to the plate and does whatever she has to do.
Seeing her reveal her airbending tattoos and being deemed a master?
Gone. Just gone. Just --

alerion19 In reply to shazam26 [2014-09-09 05:02:52 +0000 UTC]
It is definitely fun!
Omigosh the Red Lotus, I couldn't even hate them because they were so sucked into what they believed in, it looked like they had all lost their minds except Zahir. To be honest, who wouldn't go mad with 13 years of loneliness in harsh conditions with small sizes and very little human contact. It was truly epic in all sorts of ways. ll the deaths were so surprising, because usually they are not as graphic as that.
Jinora is truly super amazing! Holy, she became my favourite character alongside Mako the moment I saw her. And that scene knocked me out, it was so hardcore.
I still feel really hard for Korra though. At the end of the second season, she declared that she was not longer the bridge and was beginning to lose sight as to why the Avatar was needed to balance the world. We saw in the beginning of the third season that she was frustrated with her lack of being able to do anything to fix the problems that arose with the spirit portals being opened again, and she began to lose faith in herself. Then at the end of the third season, Tenzin pretty much confirms her fears by saying that the new air nation will travel the world and create balance. Even though she was happy about the extra support for helping to restore balance in the world during her recovery, I feel like the whole thing may just send her spiraling even more into despair.
Maybe I'm over-analyzing, but Korra has gone through a lot in one year or so. I don't know how she remains so strong, which makes her all the more amazing.

OCTOBER 3RD OCTOBER 3RDDDDDD --
OK, OK. I'm Ok. OwO
But I am seriously sooooo excited now, it's going to be here so soon! XD
All this talk of this being the last Avatar show needs to stop tho. X_X Srsly. My poor little heart can't take this roller coaster.
Honestly, I admired the Red Lotus for their strength and will! Just incredible power and determination to see their goals through. It was nice to see a bit of humanity applied to the villains as well instead of them just being a source for utter contempt. Seeing them talking to Bolin and P'Li/Zaheer's relationship was a nice touch.
But then they stepped to the cloud babies and them muthafuckaz had to go DOWN.
Seeing them die though . . . O_O WHOA. Never expected that, though it was bad ass.
Jinora is right up there for me! I like so many characters -- Lin, Tenzin, Bumi -- Jinora is amongst them for sure. :3
I know what you mean about Korra. Perhaps she has now lost sight of her purpose or relevance. She was in a bad way at the end, but I am hoping this is now her chance to truly get in touch with her spiritual self and hopefully find her way back to her past lives somehow. As injured as she is, this gives her a moment of quiet where she can take a step back and really think about why being the Avatar is so important to her personally as opposed to just being swept up in all the action and haste. We continually hear from other characters their opinion of her as an avatar, but I'd love to see some of her self-development.

BOOK 4: BALANCE
IS THAT NOT GREAT, OR WHAT????
I NEVER EXPECTED THE DEATHS EITHER!! HOLY. AND WHEN ZAHEER STARTED FLYING, I LOST IT.
I have a lot of favourites too!
Yeah, so far this series has really emphasized that the avatar is just as human as the rest of us and is not flawless as well. Everyone assumes that the avatar can fix anything, do everything, and is unbeatable, but that is totally not the truth. People expect so much from Korra and do not provide her any support at all. An example would be president Riko who is always butting heads with Korra. I hope we really see some self-development too because that would be really exciting!

OK I am way too excited. XD Looks like Kya is going with Korra to the SWT as well so, Korra/Katara/Kya special moments? CANNOT HANDLE. Flashbacks perhaps? Reminiscing between Kya and Katara? I am getting way ahead of myself from one clip.
My SO and my best friend who watch it with me were laughing like crazy at me because I barked "they BETTER not go back to the SWT just to kill off Katara, or I am going to LOSE my beak!" And my SO said: "But wouldn't it be beautiful if Korra was upset about Katara passing away and went to the spirit world to see Iroh to bring herself peace of mind, and saw young adult Aang and Katara reunited there being happy?"
Going to go ugly cry in a corner from that visual now.

Literally would not be able to handle such a thing.
Bolin and his pen pals statement made me laugh so hard! Haha! I'm kind of excited to see what Makko does now. Will he attempt to date Korra or Asami again? Will he isolate himself again? What about Kai and Jinora? Will they become an official thing? Will Tenzin chase Kai away from his daughter? What about Zaheer? What will his new prison look like? It's not like they can suck the air out of a room to prevent him from bending-he would just die. I mean they put the waterbender in a really hot place with next to no water, the fire bender in a really cold place, and the earth bender in the middle of the ocean when they were in prison. Plus Zaheer can fly. Awkwardo. So many questions, so few answers, ugh.

I am sooo interested in what's going to happen with Kainora and Makorra!
Also, did you see the trailer? Because the end of that trailer nearly made me bust an ovary with excitement.
Will Korra regain her connection to her past lives or is that aspect of the Avatar cycle lost forever?
As for Zaheer, I wonder if he has any ties to Kuvira at all? And I'm pretty sure I saw Kuvira practicing the dance routine at Su's kingdom . . . does that mean she's tied to Su Beifong in some way? AGHK!

AHHHHHHH AHHHH I KNOW, LITERALLY BOUNCING AROUND IN MY SEAT
They will be so much older omgh and different, wow. Me too! I think it'll be one at a time just like last season. They do it once a week for several weeks to drag out the suspense
MY OTPSSSSSSS! THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL TOGETHER.
I did see the trailer! Did you see the episode one sneak peaks? I literally sobbed from excitement! Omgh toph, I hope she has an epic reappearance.
I think that one is lost forever :v idek though, we will have to find out!
Apparently we will see Zaheer in a prison scene a good couple of times and apparently korra and him might come face to face again too.
I feel like Kuvira is another secret evil person that comes from nowhere. I feel like her main mission in life is to take back Republic City for the Earth kingdom because it was originally their territory. I think she hardcore monarchy respecting, and wants to avenge her queen by fulfilling her wishes. ALL THOSE ARE THE THEORIES MY MIND HAS PUT TOGETHER. Kuvira is one of the metal benders in the steel clan this that Su lives in. So yes they are connected.

SOOOOOO Kuvira seems like an evil dictator type. O_O She legit reminds me of pre-WWII Hitler.
AND Kainora is officiaaaaalllll! So sweet!
I'm worried about Bolin.
I really feel like there's a conflict on the horizon between him and Mako because of their individual jobs. And it'll break my heart!
I'm excited to hear about what Korra has done while she's been off on her own. It seems like she is in a very dark place, but she's strong-willed. I just can't wait to see her bounce back out of this funk. I wasn't crazy about Korra when the show first started, very rash and cocky. But seeing her broken like this after being so energetic and spirited has been crushing. I realize I love this character and want to see her back in a good place. < It's amazing how much she has grown on me! IF THEY END THIS EPISODE WITH HER FINDING TOPH I'M GONNA

I know right?! My predictions somewhat came true which is weird!
Kainora makes me giggle and happy inside. So adorable, ah! And Jinora and the other airbenders with their new airbending suits are so awesome!
AH BOLIN WILL HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF HIS JOB, INCLUDING RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS WITH OPAL, BROTHER PROBLEMS WITH MAKO, AND EVENTUALLY FRIEND PROBLEMS WITH ASAMI AND KORRA, IF SHE MAKES A COMEBACK AS THE AVATAR.
Oh Korra, literally hearts my heart to think about her. No words for her situation, she is stuck in a dark place and just ohmygosh, can't handle it.
I feel like they will do that with an episode but I'm not sure if it is going to be this week's episode
