Thank you very much. I will be using this (and all your tutorials) often and readily, since I am the ultimate fail at expressions. D:

But yay for you and your worldly advice! :3
I also love your style.
Yaaay! You're the best. Now, TO PHOTOSHOP to become less fail at expressions! Whoo~

Not the tapir! D:

But seriously though, I don't really do much in this style, but this tutorial still very interesting and entertaining.

I LOLed, especially at "the face you make after reading Eragon." I never read the book (thankfully) but I saw the movie and it was UNSPEAKABLY BAD. Except for Jeremy Irons, who was a steaming pot of leg-hump-inducing sex.

shingworks In reply to dmarling [2008-09-13 23:57:38 +0000 UTC]

Ugh, unfortunately the book had no such secks T___T

dmarling In reply to shingworks [2008-09-15 04:27:18 +0000 UTC]

I think it's worth downloading an illegal copy of the movie just to watch the portions with Jeremy Irons in it. Despite how UNSPEAKABLY BAD that film was, I left quite worked up purely because of Jeremy Irons. >.>"

Haha, I made the face after reading Eragon and Eldest! (don't ask me what possessed me to read the second one. Hope maybe?) This is a great tutorial because it forces you to think about what your doing, instead of imitating mindlessly.

Awesome, that was the point XD And yeah, I admit I read a bit of Eldest (just to see if it got better) (it hadn't)

lolzz poor chinchilas. Do you just have a huge stockpile of photos of yourself making different expressions? I should do that...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shingworks In reply to blackswan510 [2008-09-10 00:39:36 +0000 UTC]

I do, sort of, but it only helps when I'm drawing faces similar to my own. For other expressions I either have to extrapolate or just come up with whatever personally looks best to me X3

Very explaining and fine-detailed on how expressions work

Although my style is known for it's fake simplicity (make you THINK it is simple but it is not) those are some very good advice for the new drawer...
it is applicable in every style, and helps pretty much EVERYONE...

and god, i love big eyes...

(Plus I can't draw expressions for squat so I need all the help I can gather!)

Yay for helpful tutorialness~! And I really can't tell what that "Eragon" expression is... I can't figure out if it's a "I can't believe I read that!" or a "No! A cliffhanger!" ... XD

Oh... so that's where my pet tapir went... lol

falsechaos In reply to ??? [2008-07-27 06:17:33 +0000 UTC]

This is a really cool tutorial! I like the way you asked questions throughout, which kinda makes me read it a bit more carefully than I would one that just lays everything out step by step. Focusing on those differences between the faces (as well as angles of the face, I almost never see that covered in tutorials!) really helped point out, well, what made them different! XD;;

i just looked at all of your tutorials, and i only have to say three things:
1.i like how you asked questions 'cause when on a tutorial it says 'this does this and thats why it looks like this' that annoys the hell out of me, but when you ask questions like 'how' and 'why' you acctually think about it and that really helped me(of corse i am rather odd so other people may have difforent opinions about that...
2. having balance between text and art...you win
3.you know how to keep it interesting.... GOOD JOB
thankies for the great tutorials!!!
