What's funny her is that I actually enjoyed Eragon. It was the movie that sucked.

Yeah... I think it depends on your age and literary experience. If you're reading it at a lower level of either, it could superficially appear to be pretty good and entertaining. Once you have a better feel for story construction and characterization and pacing from reading other books, you'll see that it's reaalllly not that great. It steals ideas from a lot of other better stories, and unfortunately doesn't hide it very well. But if you find it enjoyable, don't let me stop your fun! I used to read a ton of Dean Koontz when I was younger and thought it was awesome, now I can't stand his technical ability... I still think it's amusing though.

Ahhaha, yep, I have experienced the "I can't draw that face if I'm not making it" phenomena. Also my sister does it. We tease each other for it
Thank you so much for this tutorial - it's a life saver!

Your tutorials are actually some of my favorite on the site. They're incredibly helpful, informative, and have a bit of fun in them too! I've actually had this tutorial printed out waay before I joined DA, and since then I've had it available for practicing facial expressions (though admittedly I haven't been practicing as much as I should have D.

Super thank you for uploading ALL of your tutorials! They rock!

Very helpful; I love the way you draw expressions. I've always had trouble with drawing different expressions, and this helped. Thanks you~

I tend to make the face I'm drawing supconciously xD Once I was drawing a surprised face, my eyes were really big, and someone asked if I was okay lol.
But I still have troubles, so thank you for uploading this!

I actually slapped my back when I got to ending point 4. Dammit!

But seriously, insanely helpful. My art teachers always made a point of telling me the proportions of the face, but not ONE of them pointed out that the proportions themselves change with expression. I feel like an idiot for not realizing, but this helped me figure that out. Thank you so much!

Great job! I'm really liking your tuts! Although I don't want to go too much to the cartoonish style this should help me lots with whichever I want to draw. Also I'd say you have a great way to "show" your tuts, it's organized, a couple jokes. Last I'd like to say that the "Last Notes" are really nice!

shingworks In reply to caradecunha [2011-04-27 04:48:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! Yeah, I draw pretty cartoony but with the caveats at the bottom, hopefully most of the advice can be translated to other styles

Spider thing creeped me out too, lol. Especially having my hair up and it had been tickling my back for awhile. But yes, this does help, love the humor too. It's strange because I can freehand a lot of body shapes and face shapes and they're kind of cartoony, but the only drawing style I can do for eyes is eerily realistic. >.>
