“Okay, I have a confession now.”

Snake turned to the teenager and snorted. “Now what?”

Danny wrinkled his brow. “You look really weird without all the gear you like to lug around. I’m not even trying to be funny. Do you really see yourself carrying around that stuff all the freakin’ time?!”

The man gave a dry laugh and opened the door. “Well, I kind of lost all my stuff while being mercilessly tortured. How’d you manage to evade them like that?”

“Hello? You’re talking to the ghost kid here, remember? I have a lot of abilities you don’t.”

Yeah, like invisibility, wall phasing, blah blah blah. Crappeh banter the first time around. Snake’s been tortured. Can’t say I blame him for giving sarcasm out like free candy.

Snake shrugged. “You found none of my things?”

Danny shook his head. “Not a thing. I looked everywhere when I was Phantom, even when Skulker was running around and torturing you all over again. And I couldn’t find a thing- no guns, no shirts, no grenades, nothing. It’s almost as if they tossed them out the window or something because they thought it was so dangerous having those sorts of things.”

The man ground his teeth angrily. “Then why have all the guards carry around guns?”

The boy could offer no answer. He merely shrugged and walked inside the room with Snake, looking around and mumbling under his breath about how one machine could mess up an entire city, much less a state. Snake allowed him to continue his ranting to himself, looking up at Metal Gear RAIN and shaking his head. “I still can’t believe this is the second Metal Gear.”

This whole event took place around the time of 2006. Thus, MGS2 isn’t going to be happening, and we won’t have to see Raiden looking like a fool in front of Danny. I haven’t played it, either, so we have a problem anyways.

“Do you like it, brother?”

The soldier gritted his teeth. He knew that voice. He knew that voice almost like he knew the way around a SOCOM.

He turned around and saw him, clenching his fist. “Liquid,” he spat quietly.

And we all know how much I love this blond and his evil ways. Come on, I had to throw him in here.

“Very good, brother,” he smirked, his hands in his pockets. “You seem to have remembered me, despite the fact that you were the one that killed me so many months ago.” He shrugged nonchalantly at Snake’s glare. “So I got resurrected from the dead by a ghostly entity. It allows me to make my life so much easier in conquering the world with Metal Gear!”

Danny glanced at Snake, who gave the subtlest nod possible. Quickly, the rings appeared around his body and allowed him to transform into Phantom. His hands were alight, his eyes shining with hatred. “You still never explained who brought you back to life!” the hybrid snarled, shooting two ghost rays towards the terrorist.

A pink shield came up suddenly, much to the teen’s surprise. He looked off to the side, pointing his hands and the caped being in front of him. “Oh, I get it! Vlad didn’t want to get his hands dirty, so he used all the science and technology from Axion Labs to bring back you! He couldn’t do it by himself- Plasmius is getting too old for this sort of thing!”

The billionaire’s eyes flashed dangerously, and even Snake knew that Phantom had pinched a nerve. “You’re still the immature fool that played hero when I was mayor of the city. And now that everyone knows I’m back and fears my power with Metal Gear…” He smirked, seeing the look of shock slowly creep onto the boy’s face. “Oh, yes. Metal Gear RAIN is now mine, and I will use it to its full potential!”

Well, we all know Vlad was a psycho before. But now we know he’s a sadist AND psycho! *dances* Yes, I know. I’m horrible, but I can’t help it. I love totally evil and heartless Vlad bent on world domination with this evil guy at his side.

“You’re not going to make yourself a war hero with that mindset,” Snake told him flatly. “I dunno where the hell you get these fantasies of yours, but they’re going to stop. Now.”

Liquid laughed manically. “Oh, that is rich, Snake! You think you and some puny teenager are going to beat the most powerful being in the universe and myself?! That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard of in days! And since we helped in the process of bringing Metal Gear to its new home and our work here with the two of you is finished…” He gave a look to Plasmius, an evil grin unfurling on his features. “We won’t need the girls anymore.”

Phantom clenched his fist, ready to fire again. “Sam and Meryl. You brought them here to lure Snake and me to this place!”

The man casted an amused look at Phantom. “Smart boy. How old are you again?”

*snickers* I’m sorry. That’s just funny. Age is always a factor, isn’t it?

“He doesn’t have to tell you a thing,” Snake replied angrily, rubbing his wrists. This wasn’t getting anywhere. If they were going to find the girls, they had to cut this charade and move on to more important matters- like actually seeing if Liquid was right in stating that they were inside RAIN. “All we care about is truly seeing if the girls are inside Metal Gear.”

Plasmius gestured to the machine. “See for yourself… if you can.”

The teen clenched up, feeling nothing but raw hatred for the man in front of him. Plasmius was worse than when he was on Earth before those four years ago. Snake narrowed his eyes, watching Liquid remove his trench coat, feeling a sense of déjà vu over come him. “Phantom, you gotta find these ladies and get them out of here.”

“Me?! What about you? What about Metal Gear?”

The man pulled a face and watched Liquid get into a fighting stance. “I’ll handle it. If you manage to get them out of here, maybe you can give me a lift in destroying it. But I can’t make any promises right now. Just get Sam and Meryl out of here and maybe make it back. If anything, get out alive yourself.”

Phantom stared at the situation, realizing there was no room for debate. If he tried to fight Liquid with Snake, hell would’ve broken loose. If he tried to fight Plasmius, bad things would have happened- worse things than the day’s events. And if he went for Metal Gear… well, that was a completely different story. The world waited for his actions, watching him decide on possibly fate itself. His hands glowed, his eyes burned.

And he decided.

And the verdict is…?!

Phantom bolted for the door, shooting past Plasmius and sending the man into a furious rage. He was going the right way- the girls weren’t in Metal Gear. They were in a completely different location that they knew very well. The male wasted no time in going down the halls, turning invisible and avoiding the soldiers’ bullets. ‘No time to deal with them,’ he thought grimly. ‘I’ll just have to make sure to deal with them on the way back… if possible.’

He turned visible again, looking around the lab and groaning. He had been here so many times over these past few months- but why couldn’t he remember where anything was? ‘C’mon, Phantom, think! Instincts- use your instincts like Snake told you!’

There was an evil laugh from behind him, and Phantom whirled around. Plasmius floated there, his hands alight and eyes blazing. “You’ll never find them!” he growled, pointing his hand at the nineteen-year-old. “I’m not going to let you- not after all the pain you’ve managed to cause me!”

“Yeah? Try and stop me, Vlad!” the teenager retorted, shooting down the hallway.

With an enraged scream, the bachelor followed his enemy down the corridor in his hope of finally destroying his one obstacle to true victory…

Dear god, this looks bad. You shouldn’t insult your enemy, goad him, or taunt him in any way. That is BOUND to lead to something bad-bad-bad-bad-BAD!

This was going to be another physical battle.

Liquid smirked, watching Snake crack his fingers and get into a battle stance as well. “It will be just like old times, won’t it, Snake? I know you definitely remember our battle from the time we fought on Metal Gear REX. But then again, how could anyone forget? It was only you and I.”

Snake put his fists up slightly, not saying anything. He remembered, all right. How could he have possibly forgotten the so-called “final battle” that his enemy had challenged him to? Snake had thought Liquid had died after falling of REX the last time, but he hadn’t.

And this time, the brothers weren’t even on the top of a big hulking piece of machinery that could launch nukes. They were on the ground, under a large nuke-shooting machine. And Liquid was looking damn near psychotic at the moment. His eyes danced with a fire in his eyes- fire that could kill. “Come now, Snake! I want one final dance before I kill you!”

“I don’t dance, Liquid,” his brother snapped.

The terrorist snarled before lunging at Snake with an intended fist to the jaw. Snake backhanded the blow and landed an elbow to his face.

The fight was on.

SHIRTLESS MEN ARE HOT. *drools*

“Damnit, where are they?!” Phantom muttered angrily, swerving and narrowly avoiding the pink beams of light that shot out of Plasmius’s hands. “I gotta find them before that fruit loop does anything stupid! Like kill me with those stupid ecto-blasts of his!” He urged himself to go faster down the way, his hands alight with energy.

Plasmius’s haunting laugh followed him. “You can’t escape me, little badger!”

Little badger- how long had it been since the man had used his stupid pet name for him. It seemed like ages ago, years ago. And yet, somehow it didn’t. It almost felt like old times. But now it was completely different- this was a matter between his city and the world. If he didn’t stop Liquid and Vlad from their dastardly goal, then everything would be lost. He looked back at the cape-clad figure and grimaced. ‘This is going to be anything but easy,’ he thought.

That name- that degrading thing of a name for poor Danny. That guy never gets a break, huh? Nope! D: And besides, I love using it. Gets our favorite kid fired up and annoyed.

And suddenly, he saw it.

Making a sudden sharp turn to the right, Phantom surged down the next hallway, turning invisible and hoping that Plasmius wouldn’t see him. He saw the cell that held the girls and stopped in front of them, praying that Plasmius would make the turn down the hallway. Faster and faster the hybrid sped, and Phantom feared a crash landing was inevitable.

Nothing doing. Plasmius turned immediately, shooting pink ghost rays and screaming once again at the top of his lungs. Sighing with relief, Phantom phased through the window and looked at the women, turning visible. Sam and Meryl gasped in astonishment as he reappeared, looking around the cell worriedly. “Liquid and Plasmius stuck you in this? What the hell? This is just…”

“You’ve got to get us out of here!” Meryl cut in desperately, clutching her arm. “Liquid’s going to murder us in min… where’s Snake?”

The hybrid hero took her hand. “With Liquid. They’re fighting each other again.”

Sam gave the man a look, and he knew what she was asking. He looked away, and both of them knew what he could have said. The Goth looked visibly shaken. “No. It can’t be. He can’t take on the maniac by himself! He’ll get pulverized!”

Phantom bit his lip. “I know. But Plasmius is still around too. He’s after my butt, and Liquid is after Snake’s. My job is to get you both out of here alive and maybe get back in time to try and destroy Metal Gear RAIN.”

“So this big Weapon of Mass Destruction now has a name?” Sam asked, frowning and taking his hand while Meryl took the other cautiously. “There’s something new that you don’t see every day. So what’s going to happen if you don’t destroy it?”

He shrugged, looking around and phasing through the glass again, turning visible and looking around for any signs of Plasmius. “Really, really bad things. I’m not going to go into any details right now.”

*random cough* Good plan. Destruction of property, taking over the world, Metal Gear RAIN… *rambles*

Meryl grimaced and looked down both hallways. “So, any plans of getting us out, oh legendary one?”

Phantom pulled out a suspiciously familiar jet board device and handed it to Sam. “This is a supposed prototype of Valerie’s newest jet board. I’m not sure how fast it is or if it’s even been tested, but I do believe it will get you out of here in one piece. Sam can ride, and I can hold Meryl and get her out of here. Yeah, I know you might not like flying, but you’ll have to deal with it for now,” he added, seeing the petrified look on Meryl’s face.

She slowly shook her head. “After seeing how…”

“This isn’t the time for Twenty Questions!” the teen told her furiously, scooping her up. “You’ve got to get out of…”

20 Questions- never even played the game, actually. I just think it’s a quip our ghost hero would yell. Knowing him and all the horrible cracks he made in the series the more confident he got with those powers of his.

“Phantom?!”

The male closed his eyes and gritted his teeth, turning around and seeing the Huntress behind them, standing on her jet board and looking stupefied. He nodded to Sam on the jet board and to Meryl in his arms. “I’m in a bit of a situation here, Valerie. Look…”

She pointed her finger back to where he last was with Snake and Liquid. “What the hell are you doing here? RAIN is on the other end of the building!”

“No duh,” he replied dryly, seeing her face morph into one of horror. “I’m trying to pull off a rescue mission here!”

She blinked, turning down the engine motors slightly. “These were the girls that were kidnapped? Meryl and Sam?! Why didn’t you tell me? I could have saved them!”

Phantom gritted his teeth. “Are you going to help me, or are you going to keep blubbering and staring at me like I’m some sort of idiot? Valerie, I need you to get these two girls out of here alive. Plasmius is still skulking around here, looking for me, and Snake is having an all-hands duel with Liquid. Do me a favor and protect them while I deal with two terrorists against humanity with a nuke-launching WoMD!”
