Must've taken a pretty while to render.
Blender internal isn't.. y'know.. the fastest raytracer out there.

I used Lambert/Cook Torrent --
It was done with YafRay - I really never use the Blender Internal... not even for test renders.

Refraction and Reflection looks just weird. You should use subdiv for the mesh itself. Not a beveled 5 segment cube. Reminds me of Tetris 3D though.

it's only 3 segment - and if I'd 'smoothed' you wouldn't see that either.

It's the reflections of the cubes behind and above the cubes, and the view through the cube of the cubes below it.
