Description Title refers to the forground planet...
I might re-render the background planets in Blender as they are rather dark...

All new planet textures (higher resolution, just not as high as I wanted.. - see my journal about that)
Textures created with the Gimp
Planets rendered in Blender
Forground created in Terragen
Assembly and detail in the Gimp

Enjoy.

Thanx, I had a lot of fun with it, crashed the computer 2x and crashed Terragon too many times to count, but hey I made work.

I'll bet I've been doing the same thing here as well keep forgetting there is not much ram in this comp yet but I make it a habit to save my work before I render so other than having to restart the render it is alot better than having to re create all over

Yeah, after the first time I started saving before I render...

well it took me a couple of times after setting up some big scenes to start saving now it is just second nature most times

Funny my scene wasn't that big... only 3 planets... but it was using 256mb of the 383mb in the system just be on the screen, much less render....

Wow that is a lot but Vue can be like that too not very many objects but the poly count is way up and that is what eats up the ram the most

hmm didn't think about the polycount on those... it probably was very high as I made them larger in order to have the bumpmap look good.

Yes it can be easy to over look I do it all the time "My Bad" but the rendering usually will let me know quickly

yay for gimp work
I think this has the '80s' sci-fi look!
Hmm it may sound strange to you, hehe, but the color scheme with well illuminated land and totally black sky makes me feel that some space hero will land on this asteroid!

I had thought about going and getting a 'speeder bike' and put it on.
