Yes me too and if a hard drive goes bad and you have to buy a new one and do a fresh install format and create etc 4 and /home and /swap and start all over then they want to hook yu $$$ for Fluendo again whereas most all the other distros ..give them to you

yeah, basically if I pay for something I expect it to be mine forever - not to have to pay again if I have a hardware failure....

Well..of late ..even though I have that home built alien tower w the cold swap drives ,.,and do have an .rpm distro..I have been using the Ubuntu Ultimate Edition ..which even though U/Deb based is very fine eye candy and comes pre-installed with all the graphic arts programs i use ..for RAW and .exr .,and is fun to use...But ..aside from the fluendo.s BS ..I still prefer .rpm I havent looked at Dr Stallmans site lately..maybe i should check out and see whats new at BSD

hmm, may have to see what's going on that direction myself... as I know BSD is great for servers too.

ok, that's a pain. Did you go on the forums to ask about that?

SiathLinux In reply to Gymnart [2009-12-04 01:39:13 +0000 UTC]

yeah - that's actually what the bug is

Gymnart In reply to SiathLinux [2009-12-04 04:12:07 +0000 UTC]

So, do you have to wait until they fix it?

or go to another version of Linux.

Gymnart In reply to SiathLinux [2009-12-05 18:15:20 +0000 UTC]

Makes me glad that I did not switch over from my "old" version then. Everything is set up the way I want/need it to be and I'm concerned about sudden problems like the one you're having. Then I'd be saying, "Why, oh why did I have to go and upgrade when it ruined things? My system worked just fine before!"

Yeah, I'll probably get the newest Mint and go back with it - or maybe Fedora, both of those worked real nicely on my laptop...

Me thinks that some distros have problems with working on a laptop. I know that my son-in-law Robert's Toshiba laptop even had trouble with the audio driver and that was with Sabayon, Fedora (or was it RedHat?) and Ubuntu.

I found that the Realtek Audio (which is Dell/Acer/HP laptops) has issues with most of the Linux builds - though I found that Ubuntu/Mint and Fedora had the 'least problems' with it.

I don't remember which audio chip that Toshiba has but it could be Realtek.

It's a good possibility.
