Did you use many different pieces (like I did with my 3d gymnast) or did you model this out of one shape?

This is all separated parts - as I've yet to work out the bones in Blender to make it into a 'ose able' figure ....

So bones can be put in afterwards? I thought that bones had to be done first.

yeah.
Some of us can't understand the manual though. Some manuals are in technobable.

I could probably understand the manual - if I could make it through it without falling asleep

Well, thanks to your help, I was able to do the "poly reduction" on the lamp project (and have the lamp smoothed too! Remember when you redid it and it was not so smooth as I wanted?) and the file size went from 400 something KB to about 200 something KB. I did have some trouble though with exporting it and figured out that I had to have "Selected Objects" DEselected when exporting and then it worked. Otherwise, it was exporting as all one piece and I couldn't tell where all the pieces were so that I could color them individually as I wanted.

Anyway, it's done now so if you ever get SweetHome3D working, you can have this unique edition of my lamp if you want.

I did get it working but as I did something ignorant - I've had to reload my whole computer - and haven't fixed that one yet.

Well let me know if you're ready with SH3D and if you want the lamp.

They took SOOOO long to do - and then pose them (as I don't know how to do bones in Blender)

I only know how to do bones in 3d max, you should have a look online and see if there are some tutorials!

SiathLinux In reply to HollowIchigoBanki [2008-04-29 02:07:27 +0000 UTC]

There are several but they are in 'geek speak' and are written as if you know every shortcut on Blender (which I only know about 1/10 of ...)

Most are so technical that they are boring!!! and I really want to learn this part of Blender so that I can animate my PAHR

Having Windows not be so crappy

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-01 01:11:27 +0000 UTC]

At least it's low maintenance...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SiathLinux In reply to markopolio-stock [2008-05-01 01:55:28 +0000 UTC]

Linux is actually low maintenance - it just requires a bit more 'knowledge' than Windows.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-01 01:59:29 +0000 UTC]

But nothing really runs on it, so where does the knowledge get you? I know... Get the dll's, I'm saying you gotta, or pretty soon, you're going to reach a dead end in the modeling sales. Because if it ain't Poser, or Vue compatible, the market is tiny. And OBJ doesn't cut it.

SiathLinux In reply to markopolio-stock [2008-05-01 02:01:41 +0000 UTC]

Actually a couple of 'real' 3D programs run on Linux - but I can't afford them

AutoCADD and 3DS MAX

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-02 00:58:51 +0000 UTC]

Go for the MAX! Unless you're willing to give up Linux... Then in that case... I've had my eye on zModeler for a while now. I hesitate, because I don't know anyone who has it, so I don't know how friendly it is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SiathLinux In reply to markopolio-stock [2008-05-02 02:16:18 +0000 UTC]

I've used z and didn't like it that much (I've actually used Max and AutoCADD - (being as Max is owned by the creators of Cadd .. ) I gotta tell you I don't like the interface on CADD. And just never was any good with Max.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-02 02:30:00 +0000 UTC]

I don't really know. On the one hand, I want to get the best program I can possibly afford. By best, I mean best interface to function balance. I'd give up some functions for ease of use. But I don't want to spend Maya money either. There's no way I want or need something that expensive, I don't care what it does. Autodesk in general just seems to be a waste on me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SiathLinux In reply to markopolio-stock [2008-05-02 18:27:12 +0000 UTC]

You do realize that MAX is just AutoDesk with a nice 'wrapper' over it

The one program that I want to have (and I will have to buy a whole new computer for NOTHING but - is LightWave - as it is the one that the studio uses to create 3d for movies. (well they use Maya too - but I ain't rollin' like that )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-02 22:39:53 +0000 UTC]

And I seem to remember that Maya is Autodesk too... Let's see, which version can we charge the most for?

LWO?!? Shoooot! For $1k, maybe I'd want to go there... It's only a little bit more expensive than Zmodeler. And it's a WHOLE lot more compatible with what I'm already familiar with. Hmm.
System req's look good, nicely above the bare minimum. And it runs on 64bit! COOL! No compatibility mode crap!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SiathLinux In reply to markopolio-stock [2008-05-03 00:07:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it was 64 bit compatible before the public could get the 64 bit machines

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-03 13:23:25 +0000 UTC]

Lightwave. I need to look more closely at it. I'm wondering how proprietary it is in the file transfer department. Mainly because I really don't want to have to apply textures, etc. by hand in the other programs once I export things.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SiathLinux In reply to markopolio-stock [2008-05-03 23:24:54 +0000 UTC]

Lightwave is the original .obj creating 3D program..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-04 02:20:33 +0000 UTC]

When did it change to lwo then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SiathLinux In reply to markopolio-stock [2008-05-04 03:43:00 +0000 UTC]

about 10 versions ago
(Look at your exporter for .obj - it always has LIGHTWAVE .obj )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-04 16:23:40 +0000 UTC]

Nope. It's Wavefront OBJ.

markopolio-stock In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-07 21:55:22 +0000 UTC]

I'm just tired of buying software that sucks, and doesn't do what I want and need with a reasonable interface. Apparently that's too much to ask.

SiathLinux In reply to markopolio-stock [2008-05-07 23:16:00 +0000 UTC]

I agree - which is why I use Blender - at least it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg
