Thanks

Need some sort of roundiness between the spoke and the rim. Something like the real rim, anyways, it look good.

SiathLinux In reply to Exotic-Lover1 [2008-05-21 00:34:53 +0000 UTC]

hmm I'll have to look into how to do that.... as the spokes and the rim are not the same mesh - although they have been 'joined' ...

Exotic-Lover1 In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-21 00:45:52 +0000 UTC]

So the results is that it is kinda easy to do it.

SiathLinux In reply to Exotic-Lover1 [2008-05-21 01:59:39 +0000 UTC]

Actually the spokes have 64 vertices round them and the spot they hit the rim has 2 .... so no it's NOT going to an easy thing.

NOTE for all method:The rim must be 1/(The amount of spokes) of 360 and duplicated with the neccessary angle rotation.

Meh, boolean union and then split and connect to the vertex, and then bevel. That how I'd do it in Maya.

Another method is to split, create a shape of the circle, and extrude faces, and bevel later.

Another method is to use NURBS and make the spokes and circular rim area and then circular fillar, and convert to polygon.

Another method is to use boolean, split ring tool, and scale the vertex.

Pretty much 4 out of the 6 methods in Maya. I think you can do three of those in Blender.

SiathLinux In reply to Exotic-Lover1 [2008-05-21 02:05:17 +0000 UTC]

my method is faster than 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. and about the same speed as 2..

my method is actually simple. I create a tube move it - duplicate it ... and rotate it ... I create a cylinder outside of those - and I shape it. the center is usually a cylinder with sides = to the number of spokes.

Exotic-Lover1 In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-21 12:07:19 +0000 UTC]

Hhhmm, k. Didn't know about the tube part, I did know that they have it on Maya, just didn't mention. Revolve Tool just revolves and makes thing faster. It not about how fast you go, it about how you take your time.

I have tried doing a rim that way - but when I connect all the 'separate parts' and then tell it to smooth - it leaves huge 'bumpiness' where I connected the parts together - so I almost have to make the outer rim as a tube in order that it will be smooth for the rendering version.

I decided I'm going to redo the frame -0- totally hit me at work today why I didn't think it looked right - new version coming to night! - hopefully I'll get that done and be able to get some of the interior components started.

Thanks for the fav - but this is far from done and what you see is 'getting updated' as I realized why I don't think it looks right.

I have 4 of them and a frame now - put it up as soon as it finishes rendering

alright then - have u tried blender 2.46 - i looked at it some & did a little , then
i thought "what about this cloth" - i hadn't used any cloth of any app - the
results of my first "very good" - in minutes , it took to do "oh .. cool" -
also i didn't know how to do soft bodies neither ~`...

SiathLinux In reply to darkKiell [2008-05-20 18:26:53 +0000 UTC]

I haven't up dated to 2.46 (current on my system is 2.54 RC2)

darkKiell In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-20 23:51:59 +0000 UTC]

well , alright - get one just 2 try out - (am i wrong or can one run two different versions at once ??) - well , maybe u will look in to it ~`...

SiathLinux In reply to darkKiell [2008-05-21 00:00:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, under linux you can if you have them installed into separated file systems. Uh, let me explain that -- if you install the original into the normal root filesystem and have the icon on the system tray and basically a 'normal' package install - Then you can install a second version (usually an older version as the normal install will auto update with everything else you have normally installed) into a 'faked' filesystem in your home folder by adding the proper filesystem names as if it was in the root filesystem.

alright - did u read about it then ? - that cloth , gotta love it - i know i'm
going on about it - so far i've done 3 !yay! - ok .. i know , big whoopy
it is cool though - i guess i should look at some other features
but why - ok just kidding ~`...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SiathLinux In reply to darkKiell [2008-05-21 01:58:08 +0000 UTC]

I can do the cloth with my current version - I did one - it was a lame attempt - so I'll have to find what the best settings are to make it look good (It was more like rubber... than cloth )

I have to say the whole soft body under the 'game engine' is REALLY cool

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

darkKiell In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-21 02:13:25 +0000 UTC]

do u mean use soft bodies for cloth ? or u have a actual cloth ? - there is
pre-sets in the new one `cotton `silk ` denim ` leather `rubber and custom
to set ur own i take it - haven't used game engine , don't really know how -
2.46 cloth is fairly "easy" & straightforward - the results R cool

i put up one render but doesn't show it off very well ~`...

The old one you have to set the numbers to create the difference.

I'm not sure why my system hadn't updated to that automatically...

darkKiell In reply to SiathLinux [2008-05-21 02:23:56 +0000 UTC]

yeah , alrite - i thought it would B some number setting with this one (yes ,it is
if u do more , i guess ) - well , get one & put it on any comp just to try it ~`...
