Description Ok, this is my 1st rendered 3d object...

Background is from space.com (in the future all of my 'backdrop' images will be created by me with the Gimp)
Planets surface texture and bump map made with the Gimp 2.2.10
Image rendered with Blender 2.41

Many more will follow as I learn more about Blender's tools and abilities.

Tell me what you think, tell me where to improve...

you know, Blender has a built in star generator that looks pretty nice

Saw that but when I render it doesn't render my objects, just it's stars... maybe it's the settings - I've a lot to learn.

I know nothing about the programs that you use...so not sure what I would be able to add for advice on improvement...I do think the planet looks too smooth and shiny..but I wouldn't have a clue how you deal with that in your programs.

I thought it was too shiny also.... that and it seems to have mutilated the jpg when it wrapped it...This planet was on type of sphere and I have 4 types to choose from...so I'll try out the others and see if they work better...
Also I think that the 'rest' of the planets surface is too dark...
