"Just as a flower comes from a seed, or a chicken comes from an egg, everything has an origin. You need to find the being originally responsible for this catastrophe."

Basically I drew Mephiles deceiving Silver and Blaze. This was really just an experiment with a couple of things: light vs dark and 3D perspective (the floor...). I tried to make Mephiles look like he was coming out of the shadows to reflect his dark and mysterious personality, which contrasts Silver and Blaze, who are practically completely embodied in light. Also, I recently learned from some other artist (I can't remember their name....) that for shading, you should use blues and purples rather than blacks, so I used that trick A LOT here. Where it seems like it's white, it's actually a mix of light blue, pale rose, and light yellow....

By the way, did you know that Mephiles is based on Mephistopheles , the demonic being from the legend of Faust? Another thing, the name "Mephistopheles" is believed to come from the Hebrew word "mephitz", which means "destroyer", as well as "tophel", which means "liar". "Tophel" is short for tophel shequer, which, literally translated, is "falsehood plasterer". Or it could be a combination of Greek words "me" as a negation, "phos" meaning light, and "philis" meaning loving, making it mean "not-light-loving". Pretty neat, don't ya think?
