I'm pretty sure that is a female Golden-crowned Kinglet - Regulus satrapa
Wing bars and gold crown are diagnostic. Cute little balls of fluff!

Really, thanks for telling me. Do you know a lot about birds?

Not really, I just have good memory and they're a common sight if you put out the right kind of seed for them.

They really like thistle seed.

Actually, this is a Golden-crowned Kinglet (goldfinches are larger and do not have a gold crown). Please forgive the correction, but if Silver Turtles puts out thistle, he probably will not attract these birds. They eat mainly insects. These little ones ignore my feeders, but love to hop among the pines and firs looking for bugs!

Thanks for the correction. Hmm, if they like bugs, then do you think they'll eat mealworms or wax worms?

Your Welcome.
As to mealworms and waxworms, I don't really know.
One way to attract birds that don't go for seeds, nuts or fruit is to put out a suit feeder (thats a great way to lure woodpeckers). Also a bird bath is attractive to many birds regardless of what they eat. I think the best way to attract certain birds to your yard is to have some of their favorite plants and trees in your yard. I never see Kinglets at my suit feeder, but if I just take a good look in the pines, spruce, and firs, I have a good chance of spotting one. That is where they find the bugs they like!

I don't think we have Kinglets here. To many broad leaf trees. As for attracting them, you may want to try suit with bugs in the formula. I didn't mention it before because I didn't think of it. We do already have a suit feeder too. It's so popular that the woodpeckers have to wait their turn. We also have a seed feeder made from wire mesh with a platform on the bottom. We've gotten cardinals, sparrows, gold finches, chickadees, and the occasional white breasted nut hatches visit it. We've also had a few confused humming birds visit it because the platform is bright red.
