Description
Well, I've finally finished the piece, so now I've put together the pictures I've taken along the way to make a bit of a how-to piece, where you get to see, this time a cat, from start to finish. Enjoy, and let me know what you think!Related content

I've done this with masking tape... by just balling it up, and adding more tape until I got a shape I liked (and you can use a ball of paper or something in the middle so you don't waste too much tape lol). I then covered the whole thing with glue, slowly, and sprinkled colored sand over the body for color. The glue and sand really smoothed out the surface.
Also fun - buy some thin gold or silver wire and use it to make abstract shapes over the body (flowers, vines, stars...). Fill in the abstract shapes with plain glue. The white shapes make a lovely contrast against the colored sand around them!!
Beautiful work, btw. OO I'm all inspired. I bet the foil comes out much sturdier than the tape.

I've never tried that with tape, the closest I came was for a paper mache project in high school.
The foil is pretty sturdy, but only in the thicker parts. Limps, tails, ears, horns, etc. are still a bit fragile and can bend/break if bumped. But it is strong enough (with the glue) to stand on its own.

You're disgustingly talented with foil, lol. I only know because I've tried to sculpt things with it myself and been horrified by the results. xD But seriously, that is beautiful! The pose and shape and smoothness...seriously.

what do you mean by "putting layers of glue on" i really would like to learn how you do these sculptures

I don't really know how to explain it better, but I do slather glue on my sculptures to make sure they stay in the pose that I've left them in. My older sculptures were not glued, and so were still posable when finished (though sometimes the paint would chip)

hmm in trying to understand the glue part. do you put so much on that it takes out the wrinkles and such from the foil? then paint it? sorry for all the questions, i wanna give my hand in trying this

Well, I try to anyway...it takes quite a few layers before the wrinkles are gone. Check out some of the earlier sculptures and notice how some look wrinkled, others wavy, and newer ones much smoother. One of the reasons I don't update very often is that these take much longer to get to the point where I'm happy with how smooth they are.
Tip: thick tacky glue seems to work well for me, but not the quick-drying stuff, it dries very hard (and not all that quick, in my opinion)

What do you mean by 'putting layers of glue on'?
Also I'd like to know how big your sculptures are!

well, I take a toothpick and smear layer after layer of glue on the outside. It smoothes out the bumpiness of the foil surface. I'm also trying to put smoothed layers of foil over some problem areas, it usually turns out ok.

not too many others. I guess I should just start taking pics of my unfinished ones, and update them when they are finished (if ever).
But no one looks at scraps...
