I love the monotone colors you used in this portrait. Brilliant. I love your brush strokes and use of lines. You really get a sense of the age of this man, I love his expression.

I always wonder how artists such as you can create such detailed work with those tick, bold brushtrokes
and even with the dark b/g and overall tones, you still managed to separate him and have a wide enough range of tones to define his features

wow very nice I'm impressed by the plajes you used on the face and how they seem to share a characteristic with the lines on the shirt

Just let me say, I very much like your portraits. You sense of value and keen seeing skills are impressive.
I decided on this piece because the mark making appealed to me, its worked thickly and with energy. The blocks of color work strongly to it's advantage and the texture of the drier strokes is very nice. The only drawback is I feel you're limiting yourself to much to what you see. Here are a couple of my favorite modern figure painters (that you may already know): [link] [link] [link] Particularly, Savillie. Modifying the size of your stroke to distinguish point of focus, and when you use color, to push what you see, exaggerate more and become unbound.
All of the really positive things I'm seeing in this piece are what I think I'd want to see pushed a little more in your other works. I feel that Anna Roosevelt, this one, and the tunnel are some of your stronger and more distinguished works because they carry more of yourself, a little more play.
You could do anything you wanted with the chops you've demonstrated in those pieces, and I think pushing for experimentation (such as the collage element in your untitled piece) is all I would recommend.

Thank you very much. I recognize what you say. The aim is not to be stuck to what we see precisely, but meanwhile keep credible. That is why the painters you mentioned are my favourites too.

Sometimes it is harder NOT to blend than it is to blend. Most times actually. You have shown excellent restraint and therefore excellent skill in producing this piece.

That is right. But when you paint with acrylic paint, blending is not possible.

It 'sort of' is, but it's more of a chisel brush and luck approach. Acrylic dries too quick to be workable like oils are.

very expressive, even if the image has a "scattered" feel, due to the wide and very noticeable brush strokes. I like it.

i love the shapes you've created. i kinda wish the background was darkest on the left so there's more of a separation and his face would pop out more. keep up the good work!

Oh my! You have so much skill for acrylic. This piece is so expressive, and you can clearly tell where the source of light is coming from. It's wonderful. Was this originally in black and white?

Thank you. I made a sketch in charcoal and painted him in black and white only.

It really is beautiful. I imagine black and white being a little more difficult. And the fact that you were able to do it so perfectly just adds more to say about your skill.

Black and white is much easier. I only have to determine which spaces are light and which are dark. And not which have a warm and which have a cold colour. I am glad you like it.

This is perfect. Your use of practically all colors from black to white really makes this painting special. The texture and lighting just top it all off.
This is very well done!

Thanks. I have painted many layers in acrylic, so it gets easier and easier to paint with thick paint.

This is really good, I like it when people can create this contrast between light and shadow with such rough strokes. I think it would have emphasised the contrast more if you had used a bit more white on the highlighted area and darker shades on the shadowed area, but even so you did a great job and you obviously have some good value skills.
