Kelvin at work has me hooked on Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. He let me borrow both "Gigs", and I'm watching the second. I've always loved Ghost In The Shell, so Im happy they made a good series out of it
My reference pic for this was one of the dvd sleeves for the Second Gig. I couldn't figure out how her clothes looked because of all the text over it, but I like how the rest turned out
I would have drawn the full image (she has her hand out and she is almost touching a paper crane) but I ran out of paper.For those who cant tell who it is, this is Motoko aka the Major

when you said you were confused how she could survive after her head got blown off, did you mean in the first film from 95 or at the end of the first series of sac? coz they were different circumstances.

oh i meant at the end of the first series of stand alone, when shes walking up to a plane, she looks back and BAM lol it seems she was in the internet afterwards, but i wasnt entirely sure how she did that, i guess she would have had to known she was gunna get shot and quicky done a sort of cyber brain jump lmao

actually...(takes a deep breath).... she wasn't in the body that got shot. remember when she fought that armoured suit earlier in the series, got her arm blown off and over heated? then she went to get a new body but the doc tried to kill her, the laughing man hacked the new body and kicked the doc through the window? well she didn't transfer her brain into the new body coz it'd been hacked and she didn't trust a body that someone else had already taken for a joyride so she just got a new arm (when she went to visit aramaki l8r that was why she was touching her arm like that, coz it was new) and stayed in the body she'd had before that was half burnt out and kept that till the end of the series.
when she goes into that plane with batou she's not actually there (that's why when they show her wrist there's no watch) she is somewhere else and safe and is remote controlling the other body (the one that gets shot) in the same way that she has hacked other people and made them do things. so when she gets shot she doesn't die coz her brain isn't damaged coz it isn't in there and never was. that's why in the last ep batou is so angry at her - she didn't tell him that wasn't really her and he thought she was really dead. but she was far away....lol.
the reason she ends up in the net was coz she was still linked mentally with the body that took the bullet and that was very disorienting, getting shot so , basically her conscious mind got catapulted out of that body and didn't go straight back to 'base'(her brain) and got stuck in the net for a while till she got her wits back and brain and ghost were back together again.
phew ...breathes out..... hope that makes it clearer, that ep confused the shit outta me the first time i watched it

i know, i had to watch it a few times to get it. once you know whats going on going back and looking at it again is great, you get to see all the little clues you missed the first time (which everyone misses i think)
it's one of the things i really love about the series, how it has so many layers, and doesn't try to dumb things down for people. i like not really understanding, then figuring it out

akira is very good, although the movie is a bit confusing. it also goes a bit odd near the end, but its very cool
oh yes, i finished watching fullmetal alchemist. i bought the movie but i havent finished it. yeah that series got odd with the whole thing about like having another ed and al in another sort of universe, it got a bit confusing but not too confusing xD

lawl, fantastic drawing! I absolutely loved the first GIG, since it featured some seriously thought-provoking insights on the interpretation on friend and foe and how influential a pop culture icon has become within the following years.
I liked the second GIG (not as much as the first) since it had an interesting backstory element as well as incorperating some revolutionary political elements (similar to Che Guevara- how he be came an icon similar to Roe).
All and all, a fantastic series that many people seem to overlook. I swear- that sort of thing is going to happen within the next 20 years!

Yeah I thought nothing of the series, since I got the second movie and wasn't as impressed with it as the first, so I thought "bah, its probably dull" but i was so wrong. the first gig confused the crap outa me! I dun understand how motoko survived having her head blown off (im lead to believe all she has left of her real body is her "ghost", but still... once the brain is dead.. where do ya go? confuddled). crap, ive just spoiled a bit
its funny when you look back at the original movie and motoko looks so different!!

What I think is that she used what she learned from Aoi (the laughing man- who basically lived in the net with no actual body) to somehow instantaneously transfer herself to the net. Thats how, when section 9 is all reunited, they all sort of comment on the majors escape and how they didnt know if she was ever going to come out. Although... that is sort of a reach if you can believe she can download all her memories to the net super-fast.... Ah well, it was still very cool ^^

That's lovely. I really love how your lines looks. I think it's because when I draw I use a series of tiny strokes rather than less longer ones. I don't know why. I just think you did a wonderful job, even with a reference, your skill really showed through.

Oh it's just difficult with the whole "I can never sleep in my old bed again" thing, and having to learn where everything is in the city. If I find out I don't have something I need, like how I just found out I didn't get enough clothes hangers, I don't know where to go to grab some more. I'm also missing to cord to my printer/scanner, so that sucks. I've no clue where to find a replacement one.
