Description
Yggdrasil:Constructed primarily of carbon nanotubes, the Yggdrasil Mega-Structure is a "living" space elevator. Supporting the Nine Realms, Yggdrasil's organic architecture gives it a tree-like appearance from afar. Untold numbers of nanobots continuously weave the carbon threads, repairing damaged strands and slowly expanding the reaches of Yggdrasil. The backbone of the Realms, Yggdrasil also serves as the power and utilities infrastructure.
Of the Nine Realms:
1) Muspelheim - Realm of Fire: (not shown)
At its counterweight point high above the World Tree is Muspelheim, a huge array of solar panels whose span rivals the Realms below. Also known as the Field of Flames, the solar panel array provides the bulk of the energy required for the Nine Realms.
2) Asgard - Realm of the Aesir: (not shown)
Beneath Muspelheim lies Asgard, the home-port of the various Aesir class and Titan class ships. The vast spaceport is capable of building and servicing the Norse Fleet, led by the Flagship A.I. ODIN, whose authority is second only to Yggdrasil.
3) Alfheim - Realm of the Light Elves: (not shown)
The crew quarters of the servicemen of Asgard and Muspelheim, Alfheim is home to the "Light Elves". Having spent generations in zero gravity and a controlled environment, the "Light Elves" are nearly considered a separate species from the humans. Tall, pale and graceful, they are well adapted to the environments of space, rarely venturing down below.
4) Vanaheim - Realm of the Vanir:
At the base of Yggdrasil lies Vanaheim, the Administrative centre of the Lower Realms. The most populous of the Nine Realms, Vanaheim also houses the Vanir Collective, the Hivemind who administers the Lower Realms, occasionally vying with Asgard's ODIN for computation power.
5) Niflheim - Realm of Mist:
Directly below the Vanaheim landmass, among the dense roots of Yggdrasil lies Niflheim, the Misty Realm. Collecting runoff steam from Svartálfaheim below, Niflheim produces the rain clouds required for the farms of Midgard, essentially dictating the weather for the Lower Realms.
6) Svartálfaheim - Realm of the Dwarves:
Within the iron-rich landmass below Niflheim is Svartálfaheim, the Mining/Manufacturing Complex run by the Dwarves. The Dwarves are highly augmented humans, reveling in the machines they built which is used throughout the Nine Realms. The entire landmass is fully crisscrossed with pipelines, ducts, and tunnels built by the Dwarves.
7) Hel - Realm of the Dead:
Deep within the bowels of Svartálfaheim lies Hel, a permanent Gateway linked to the mantle of the planet. From this portal, mineral-rich magma are collected and mined, the remains which are dumped to produce more landmass. Due to the fluctuating nature of mantle's pressure, excessive magma is sometimes ejected via the honeycomb-like vents found beneath the Svartálfaheim landmass. The moniker "Realm of the Dead" came as irreparable A.I. cores are ceremoniously thrown into the magma to be smelted anew.
8) Midgard - Realm of the Humans:
Midgard comprises of the various landmasses surrounding Yggdrasil, and is the bread basket of the Nine Realms. The least tech-touched lands can be found within Midgard, with certain areas considered as wildlife preserves. The humans who lived in Midgard are simple folks, choosing not to augment or enhance themselves.
9) Jotunheim - Realm of the Jotuns:
Scattered along Midgard are the Jotuns, large monoliths of rock and stone which houses the gravitational field stabilizers. The Jotuns can sometimes be seen rising or falling, acting as weight and counterweight to balance the Lower Realms.
Special Note: Jormungand
Of the same carbon nanotube build as Yggdrasil, Jormungand is the transportation/utilities network which encircles Midgard. As Yggdrasil slowly grows, so does Jormungand.

Artist's note: When I noticed the perspective fault, I thought "To Hel with it, concepts first, correctness later."

SWEET JESEUS! Now that is what I call devein!
Not only is that structure is breathtaking and well mead, but it's truly unique in the way it breath new originality into the old legend of the Yggdrasil.
The hovering lands held by the roots of the tree, and the well detailed yet naturally elegant details are simply incredible.

Thank you!
The hours spent on Wikipedia reading up on Norse myth was worth it!
