Ash should know better than to pick up random apples off the ground because some of those apples just so happen to be dragons.

Decided to go with the "Ash mistakes Applin for a real apple" idea, but Skye still does end up needing to save Applin because an Unfezant steals her almost immediately after he places her back down to release her.
The Unfezant had been looking/waiting for Applin to reveal herself when Ash picked her up from the ground rip
After being saved for the second time that day, Applin decided that she probably should stick with Skye.
She was promptly named Gala, as Skye thought she was very sweet.
this also means ash technically gave skye an applin so they married now
