It's a little joke, I think. Nein is often confused with nine in german-english comedies such as Black Adder IV so behind the offended retort she's actually saying "Four? Oh no!"
Could be clutching straws but I can't think why they would of randomly slapped 409 on her tender otherwise. Β Β

The colouring isn't by me I'm afraid, just basically added a face and did a little bit of touching up here and there.
I've not been able to work out who actually illustrates this portrait series I'm afraid but yes I agree the livery does suit Frieda's basis quite well.Β

Rechecking the closest I can find to this painted livery is this,

but neither are an exact match as the all blue version lacks the lining on the chassis covering. I'm not really an expert on the two german Pacifics but I presume the livery was based on something real, though that said the artist may of got his wires crossed if using B&W photos as a reference.

I'd feel a little nervous and intimidated, considering how big and strong she is and how puny I am but after some time passes, I'd get used to her.

Yeah I'm an editor basically so nothing in my gallery is from scratch or anything, just like to 'Awdryfy' choice selections.
Thanks about the face, combined two from the TTTEwiki basically and then reshaped the circumference to match up as best I could.
I've seen Mallard up close but somehow even on a computer screen the German 10 Class does look more imposing. Not sure what the size difference is exactly but it would be amazing to see the two express designs side by side.Β

Yeah, they'd obviously looked at the name of the class and said "Surely we could just call her Frieda"; which can't have taken long at all if I'm honest. And I'll bet '409' was given to her purely for the whole 'Thomas mistakes her for Gordon' gag, shall we say, and nothing else; otherwise, they may as well have given her a number similar to that of her class (perhaps akin to Donald and Douglas' numbers given by Awdry in the Railway Series if you take my meaning).
No problems at all. I should think her imposing design was what gave leeway for her rather imposing personality in the events of TGR.

Well as Frieda and her livery are fictional I decided just to stick with the original painting of No.10001 (plus I was just looking for something quick to edit as i'm stuck on another I started a few days back
I did actually start with a CGI face for her but while the angle was right the sampler didn't really gel so I tried the cartoon short images you mentioned and hey presto
