It's hard to believe that this is the same Blue Diamond that Garnet describes in a flashback. The likely explanation I came up with was that perhaps she was every bit as ruthless as Garnet let on, but in the events of Pink Diamond's shattering, she became broken, i. e. not in a literal sense of the term, but she became more susceptible to her emotions, and became less firm of a leader in result. This would make since because prior to PD's demise, the Diamonds most likely thought they were above lesser gems, as diamonds are naturally strong materials, and as such they would always be around, being nearly immortal beings. The reality of Pink Diamond's death at the hands of a measly ant - such as Rose Quartz - made them realize that even they were susceptible to death. Because they never experienced death before, Blue Diamond had no idea how to take PD's death. As a result, she opted to collect items that formerly belonged to her, because she's afraid about forgetting her.

they made the diamonds very human in their emotions these few episodes. One frame in particular with yellow diamond really stuck with me in that you could see every bit of pain on her face. For me i just want them to forgive and move on and to maybe smile again.
