Robotnik was actually sent to the Void at the end of The Doomsday Project and Naugus would have freed him and King Acorn from the void to make them slaves if Season 3 of SatAM happened.
But the show was cancelled...

I miss this version of Robotnik. I would love to see him make a comeback in either comics or TV, but I know that won't happen. Anyway, great job with the picture. I like how clean your line work is.
