Oh man, I love this! o_o I'll be expecting more, because the tracks are... beautiful.
I love console music, polytone ringtones and stuff, so this is just for me.

I haven't regretted that I put you into my DAwatch-list, and I'm afraid I won't regret that in the future either.

Wow! These are GREAT! And I thought you were just a good ARTIST!

The Solaris one sounds so familiar....and I LOVE your remix of Terra's theme. I've heard a LOT of versions, and this is one of the better ones!

Wow, is there anything you can't do, all your art is great (I love some of the wallpapers!), and the music as well!

I am listening to the evil cat polka at the moment, and its brilliant, its silly, happy, and just downright nostalgic. Makes me wanna go plug in my old megadrive! if only my flatmate wasn't watching crappy soaps on the TV!.

I've only listened to the first three so far, and they're all great, am very much liking 03, having just finished playing HL2.

Well done.

It's strange, when I decompressed the HL2 source files, over half of the HL1 soundtrack was in the music folder. I actually remixes "Song 15" back when HL1 came out. It was strange to hear it during th eLighthouse combine fight in HL2. I guess they just recycled it because it was a good tune.

I Thought some of the music in HL2 sounded very familiar! I've listened the rest of the tunes now, and its a great album. I think my favourites have to be 1,3,7,11 and 12. Good work

The cover you did for this album is super, super cute. I think it's really simple but very catchy at the same time.

I downloaded all the songs and I have to say this. After hearing the first song, I actually went through your gallery and downloaded 2 other albums as well.

Anyways, here's my take on the music of this album:

Another World: I really liked this one. It wasn't a favorite of mine because it just seemed sort of there. I still really liked it though.
Evil Cat Polka: This one was very different from the first because it was all jumpy-cute-like. I liked it, but it seemed repetative at some times...though all music is like that anyways. But I mean tone-wise. Nevermind I guess.
Song 15: It really reminded me of Final Fantasy X when you're on top of the mountain in the beginning. It was an OK song.
Untitled, Unknown: When this song first started to play, I hated it. I didn't know what it was but the quality of it seemed really horrible. I thought it was my speakers, but the other songs worked fine so I doubted it. But in the middle, it picked up to very good quality and it turned out to be a favorite.
Track 07: My favorite type of music is synthetic music and this one seemed to take on a techno-ish feeling. I liked it, but it seemed almost dead as far as techno goes.
Matoya's Cave: I love this one. It reminds me of some kind of magical place with its melodious tune. Puts me in a place in the sky really.
Ending: A very sonorous sounding song compared to what I'm used to listening to. It's nice and the melody reminds me of the future heim rada in Dark Cloud2 for some reason, but it makes me dizzy. It has a weird....fuzzy feeling to it. I don't like how it seemed to grow softer/fuzzier around 49 seconds to the end.
Dancing the Tokage: Even though this song is from CC, it reminds me of CT. Though they are both from the same creators aren't they. Midway through, it reminded me of something from DC2 again. It's nice, but I felt like it could've used something else. Dunno what, but it seemed too...I really don't know. It's very nice. But after hearing it again, it reminds me of a palace in Babalonia. You know what? It reminds me of too many things, which I hate.
Song 20: At first, it sounds like background music in a dance club. It was kinda boring.
Phrase of Aya: One phrase: Best song ever.
Chateau Aiguille: You said in a comment above that the song starts out slow, so I waited until the end to let any thoughts pour into my mind, whether they be judgemental or complimentary. But in the end, I didn't really like it.
Terra's Theme: I loved the game, I loved the character, I loved the song. What the hell can I say here? The original is awesome. You made it a tad better. I loved the feeling it gave off. If I heard this song at a hotspring with waterfalls and pretty green plants everywhere, I'd be in my own heaven.
Solaris, Eden of Heaven: This song is twisted and unexpected. Seeing the name, I was expecting some sort of new age, soothing type of song, but hearing it was a completely different thing. It is adorable. Where from is this song? It's so cute ^_^ If it were an object I could grab hold of, I'd squeeze it until it's 'ears' popped off. Reminds me of some sort of moogle theme. I loved it.

Overall, The entire album was very well done. I wish I could have heard most of the songs before hand, un-remixed, so that I could have compared and made better judgement because me critiquing these songs...it's hard because I'm critiquing the song as...a song, not necessarily your work. Though, the one song I had heard beforehand (Terra's Theme), it was truly great, so as far as your work, I can probably say that overall, it's very classy It's all really great. If I had an Ipod, I'd put all these songs on there...but I don't so I can't. Though I'd love to actually have the cd (assuming it exists). >_> It really is adorable.

Wow.

Thanks for the massive review. I'm a fan of using filtering and other methods on loops and chunks, which frequrntly comes across as "low quality" sounding... kind of like passing it through an old radio, so I know what you're talking about on some of those tracks.

If you have any tracks you'd like to see on Console Collective, Vol. 2, let me know.

ecoice In reply to smashmethod [2005-07-16 18:00:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah no problem. That's a cool way to mix. I don't think I've ever heard anything like it before.....usually the things I hear are really crisp. Guess I'm just not used to it. It gets cooler after a while. I was just not sure if it was on purpose or if it was messed up.

I know there's a song I would love to hear. The "Terra" theme from Final Fantasy IX. I don't know what you can do to that one, but I'd really like to see you incorporate your own style into it. It'd be really neat

Wooow. And I'm only listening to the first track so far. I snagged all of them fast though, and hopefully they all downloaded right.

This is great so far. I think I might like this track alone more than anything from your last CD (No offense). I like to have lots of various instrumental tracks on my computer. This'll be a great addition!

smashmethod In reply to pyrox02 [2005-07-12 06:29:21 +0000 UTC]

No offense taken, just glad you like 'em. I'm still learning how to write more complex and layered melodies, so understandably my solo efforts aren't nearly as complex as the remixed stuff written by professionals.

Though I do have one new track on the new album (that isn't out yet) that I'm partial to.

Thank you for commenting.

I love the art and i love the music more, i was really surprised to listen to Another World and find it was from the Chrono Cross soundtrack. (My favorite game soundtrack, the Final Fantasy and Zelda series being my second and third)

With that said here follows my list of favorites:

01 - Another World (smashmethod Dub)
04 - Untitled, Unknown (smashmethod's I Lost The File Remix)
07 - Ending (smashmethod's Love In July Remix)
08 - Dancing The Tokage (smashmethod Remix)
12 - Terra's Theme (smashmethod Dub)

All of the songs were nicely remixed however and that leads to the question of what did you use to remix these tracks? I'm very impressed, this being the first time i have heard your music and i hope to see more remix's soon.

Well from the Chrono Cross OST i wouldent mind seeing what you could do with:

Yasunori Mitsuda - Voyage Home World
Yasunori Mitsuda - Dragonrider
Yasunori Mitsuda - Zelbess
Yasunori Mitsuda - Orphan Of Flame
And my all time favorite from the game:
Yasunori Mitsuda - Time Of The Dreamwatch

And from the FF7 soundtrack i would be very interested in seeing what comes out of:

Nobuo Uematsu - Crazy Motorcycle

If you decide you want to try one of them but dont have the track feel free to note me and i will upload the ones of your choice temporarily so you can grab it.

smashmethod In reply to Tristenm [2005-07-14 00:16:46 +0000 UTC]

I have all those, I'll have to re-listen to 'em. I personally like "Another Termina" from Chrono Cross. As for the FF7 Remixes, I already made a mix album of FF7 only songs, called "Smash Fantasy." the tracklist for it is as follows:

01 - Fighting (smashmethod Rework)
02 - J-E-N-O-V-A (smashmethod Rework)
03 - Cid's Theme (smashmethod's Laidback Rework)
04 - Birth Of A God (smashmethod Rework)
05 - Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony (smashmethod's SS-Rework)
06 - Opening, Bombing Mission (smashmethod's Epic March)
07 - Oppressed People (smashmethod's Lazy Rework)
08 - Gold Saucer (smashmethod Rework)
09 - Jenova Absolute (smashmethod Orchestration)
10 - Aeris' Theme (smashmethod Rework)
11 - Crazy Motorcycle (smashmethod's Crazy Synth Rework)
12 - Prelude (smashmethod's Passive Rework)

The only reason I haven't posted this album is because the original artwork involved pictures from Final Fantasy 7, and could ultimately be reported as copyright violations, and be taken down. Once I make up some original artwork, I'll post this album up too.
