Description
I drew up some concept art for Soviet submarine Б-427 , AKA Scorpion as she’s known these days. For those who don’t know her, she’s Queen Mary’s little submarine friend!

Design notes:
-My original idea for her hair is the one seen on the large drawing, meant to resemble a scorpion. However, I don’t like that one as much as the style seen on the bottom right, which combines the alternate bob style and the scorpion-tail braid.
-Her pants and boots will probably be part of the final design, as I like the design a lot. I think I’ll add a matching bomber jacket as well, with the straps on her arms moved to that instead. You can see this in the chibi doodle at the bottom right.
-All the belts and straps in her design are inspired by straitjackets! Her current condition - held in place but left to deteriorate - reminds me of someone wearing one, so I incorporated the concept into her design, albeit subtly.
-I haven’t settled on an eye design for her yet. I’m thinking either narrow and sad or sort of canid-like (similar to Maddox’s wolf eyes) as a reference to her being a Foxtrot-class submarine.
-Also related to the fox in Foxtrot is her hair color! Obviously these sketches aren’t colored, but I plan to give her ginger hair as a reference to that, and I might also make the end of her braid white like a red fox’s tail.

Personality:
Scorpion is not, in any way, a talkative boat. She says what she needs to say and no more than that, and her silence sometimes makes others believe she just doesn’t speak English; it turns out, though, that she’s actually fluent in English, save for her tendency to forget to use articles, and she’s equally quiet when speaking Russian. She’s inherently shy and reserved, and back when she was still with the Soviet navy she had it drilled into her mind that she must be as quiet as possible lest NATO forces hear her. When she does talk, however, she has an interesting quirk: she always addresses the person she’s talking to by their name or title, meaning a typical statement from her is something like “commander, enemy ship sighted” or “Mary, raccoons are fucking again.”
Aside from being quiet, Scorpion is also quite serious and blunt. She never sugarcoats anything, only delivering the most straightforward reports possible; she’s very much a realist and expects others to be as well, and in her mind small talk, flowery language, and softened details are all equally ridiculous. Despite this distaste for unnecessary words, however, she does enjoy listening to Queen Mary’s stories and is always glad to listen to whatever her best friend has to say, no matter how long-winded it may be.
