Description
Handheld Torpedo Launcher
Used by type U-9, U-13, U-16, U-19, U-23, U-27, U-31, U-43, U-51, U-57, and U-63 submarines of the Kaiserliche Marine
Fires using compressed air - Refillable air canister - Breech-loading
Pink - Air Canister
Stores compressed air
Magenta - Air Canister Gauge
Indicates the pressure inside the air canister
Purple - Air Valve
Lets air into the barrel
Blue - Breech Hatch
Torpedoes are loaded through this door
Teal - Trigger
When pulled, this simultaneously unlatches the muzzle hatch and fires the torpedo
Green - Barrel
Holds and fires the torpedo via compressed air
Yellow - Muzzle Hatch
Opens to release the torpedo. When prepared for firing, the force of the air inside pushes this hatch open; when the launcher isn’t pressurized, the hatch can simply be unlatched and can then fall open or be opened by hand
Orange - Air Pressure Release Valve
Releases pressure inside the barrel; usually used to depressurize after the launcher has been prepared but not actually fired, but also comes into play if the user lets too much air in while prepping a shot.
Red - Main Pressure Gauge
Indicates the pressure inside the barrel
This is the handheld torpedo launcher design wielded by all three of the WW1-era German U-boats who are currently on the Shipwrecked character roster. It’s fired using compressed air supplied by a refillable canister (don’t ask me how they refill those things, I’m not entirely sure how compressed air stuff works) and, despite seeming unwieldy or slow, a skilled user can load and prepare one of these launchers in under a minute - and that’s including the time it takes to get a torpedo out of its storage spot. Although U-20, U-55, and U-103 are currently the only ones to have these kinds of weapons, if I ever design other subs from the classes listed above they’ll use the same thing.
