Description
Hi! I present another sketch page i made in Krita. This time it's from a little project I've been thinking about doing where I draw/sketch my own version of pokemon, mainly just my favorites, but who knows I may just say screw it and draw all of them.So first up is one of my favorites, Turtwig! If you want to know why he's one of my favorites the answer is very simple. I like turtles(even though I didn't really draw him as one).
Oh, also I'm going to try to fill in gaps/make up my own pokedex entries to try to make them make more sense. (at least more sense to me.)
Turtwig: Height: 1'04" Weight 22.5 lbs.
Turtwigs eggs are laid along with the trees seeds from the back of a torterra and the seeds will attach themselves to the top of the egg where the hatchlings head should be. Once the turtwig hatches the sapling has already grown to about 2 inches with the roots going the the eggshell and into the hatchling's scalp.
This dosen't appear to bother the hatchling in anyway, though, from an outside perspective it certainly doesn't look that comfortable.
When the turtwig hatches they actually don't have the dirt in their shells, instead they have large divots which they will eventually fill with dirt.
If the area the turtwig hatches is still as safe and bountiful as it was when their egg was laid, the hatchling will simply stay where it hatched and bury itself leaving only the sapling which will supply them both with sustenance through photosynthesis. If the area isn't as safe or bountiful, the Hatchling will attempt to find a better area, preferably lose to a stream.
After about a month, the turtwig will have long lost the yolk sac and will have grown large enough that photosynthesis alone isn't enough to keep them sustained. During their time buried, the divots on their shell will have been filled with dirt both providing slightly more defense and a better spot for the sapling to grow. Similarly to the walking palm trees, the sapling will slowly make it's way down the turtwigs head and neck when it's sleeping until it reaches the dirt shell.
A turtwig's diet mainly consists of smaller bug pokemon and the occasional rattata or pidgey along with foliage.
Grotle: Height: 3'07" Weight 213.8 lbs.
Grotles are a strange stage in the turtwigs line, as they are mostly carnivorous unlike the other stages, and the sapling has also done something quite unusual. The sapling has turned into what at first glance appears to be two berry bushes, the berries themselves are actually there, but the "bushes" are actually the same sapling that was on the turtwig's head. These berries appear to be the sapling tactic if luring smaller pokemon for the grotle to feed upon when it chooses to do so.
Normally grotles will allow many pokemon throughout the day to feed upon the berries growing from it's back, but will eventually consume a few whenever it gets hungry, typically when there's only one or maybe two pokemon around to keep up the illusion that it's completely passive.
Torterra: Height: 7'03" Weight: 683.4 lbs.
Torterras are actually the most passive out of the turtwig line, even if they look like the complete opposite. The tree, which has grown quicker then the non symbiotic varieties, is now fully capable of sustaining both itself and the torterra with the sustenance they need; meaning the torterra no longer has any need to feed upon other plants or pokemon, unless the region it finds itself in doesn't meet the requirements for the tree to provide enough sustenance.
Generally torterras spend their days peacefully lumbering through their habitat, and if they don't feel like moving simply burying themselves, practically becoming indistinguishable from the surrounding area. They stay like this for long periods of time which allow smaller pokemon to live in the tree and for rocks or even other plants to find their way onto it's back as well.
