Description
Ok, this is a compilation on some notes I have taken over the past 5 years or so. This is a tiny snippit of that information. I have reams and reams of information to go through and organize. I want to publish a book on my ideas.no one has ever publish an anatomy book based primarily on women. Sure there have been "how to draw Comic Females" and "how to draw Anime Females" But never a "How to draw female anatomy" book.
So tell me if you think these patterns are useful. Let me know if the help you draw females better.

Hey LOVE the idea, I would buy it. Finding female anatomy is harder to find than it sounds. Making it harder to find makes it harder to learn. So yeah I love the idea. good luck

Cool! I wish they sold them here Beleive the the muscle structure is a bit different as well as of course bone structure. Even when females work out (weight lifters) thier muscles still grow and develop differently. I wish to document and show case it eventually.

I'd absolutely buy your book on this if you ever make it I love how you pinpoint these observations, they're so helpful. it's very interesting to see how you break up and rebuild shapes.

Thanks The book would go into more detail. I'd probably litteraly split up the angles and show how each pattern lines up. One of my earlist teachers told me the secret to drawing people accurately was trying to find patterns that link them together. This lead to decades of studying and noticing "yeah! that lines up perfectly with this!" You soon realize how perfect and mathematical the human body is...and how unlikely it is that we're a cosmic 'accident'. But...that's a philosophical and theological discussion for another time

lol, I absolutely know what you mean I looove finding patterns
art is a hobby for me, I don't intend on being an artist proffessionally, but all the same, I find that breaking things up is a great way to learn how to draw better and better
and when it comes to patterns, I'm atually going to specialize in linguistics, which is all about discovering patterns in appearantly illogical things ^^ I think we have a similar mindset on such issues ^^

True. However...live models are expensive and in short supply where I live SO I have to go through magazines for models. Or sit in a mall and draw the girls passing by.

To enjoy the act of learning and discovery doesn't make you a 'nerd.'
Something I used to enjoy in my youth, was drawing with my friends (back when they still drew). I would feed off thier creativity and energy. I wish I could have that again. So enjoy it!

I have used your shading tutorials But..not confident enough to show people yet
I'll give it a few more tries and draw some different portraits and then we'll see what happens. The hair I draw still looks like hay though

Snigom In reply to classicknight [2006-12-23 02:28:34 +0000 UTC]
Ok! We'll wait until you;re ready...but remember...an artist is more critical of his/her own work.
Think of hair as clothing. It lays 'flat' on the head. So in general it hangs down. It has 'folds' like cloth does. Hair tends to gather in 'groups.' The basic tendancy is for artists to make the hair all go in ONE direction. IN fact it goes in many downward directions. It also goes in layers. The inner most layers of hair are Darker, and Straighter. As the layers move up they get lighter in color (due to exposure to light) and separate more.
So...when you hav the basic shape of the hair, draw the top most strands going left and sometimes right. It makes it look more life like. I'll be able to explain more when i do the tut.

um, me again. Would you have any suggestions on how to draw a heavier person? Male or female. These tutorials you have are great, but they are, like most anatomy stuffs, limited to the "perfect/preferred figure". If you don't know, that's ok. But if you do, I'd very much love and appreciate the help =3
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Snigom In reply to Vibe-Rave [2006-12-18 03:05:46 +0000 UTC]
Yes I do. I think I will have to draw it as a Tutorial. Not sure I can explain in words because Fat deposits are somewhat different from Man to Woman. There are some consistancies...like the Face and Arms, but stomach, butt, and legs are different.
A bit of a warning though...when I do it...it might be kinda gross. Here's an example of what I mean: [link]
Thanks for the idea! I think people should be able to know how to manipulate the form. I don't always draw beautiful people.
