Description Ok, this is a compilation on some notes I have taken over the past 5 years or so. This is a tiny snippit of that information. I have reams and reams of information to go through and organize. I want to publish a book on my ideas.

no one has ever publish an anatomy book based primarily on women. Sure there have been "how to draw Comic Females" and "how to draw Anime Females" But never a "How to draw female anatomy" book.

So tell me if you think these patterns are useful. Let me know if the help you draw females better.

No problem Please let me know if there is any other tut idea that you think would help.

You might also want to see my Male Anatomy tut as it shows some key differences between male and female. It also shows the 'Side View' that I left out of this one: [link]

tnx.. that layered view of upper torso realy helped me to understand some things..
as about book.. i think it's a good idea.. there's enought art students who could need it... and before learning how to draw something in some style it's always a nice thing to learn how to draw it as it is

Thanks, I appreciate that. I need to really revise and organize it...and even explain it (and learn to spell ).

Funny that you mention the draw part. I plan on including a "drawing" section to that book as well. In fact it'll be chapter 1. I plan on starting from the ground and moving up. You can check out my prelimiaries on the Drawing chapter in my 2 drawing tuts: [link] [link]

actualy i was cheking them before i found this one.. cuz i feel that i need to improve my shading tehnique.. and understanding how's light behaving

actually that's what i realy like about human nature.. how people who know share they knowlege with the one who don't so passing all those things over and over.. so tnx and good luck with all the work...

Thanks, I hope one day to have that book written. I still have more work to do until i am satisfied I have a more functional system. It's still rusty and quite small.

I hope this does help you! I am eager to see people's results!

I found a female anatomy book in Barnes and Noble yesturday. But lucky for you it was tiny and in one of the lower obscure book shelves.

I have more trouble drawing men than women personally. Give the ladies a tiny waist and boobs, and the modern audiene recognizes it as female. Reminds me of Bugs Bunny in drag...

LOL, No worries....the man in on the way. The decision is how "muscular" should the guy be? obvisouly no incredible hulk. I guess it'll have to be moderate/medium build.

BartBar In reply to Snigom [2006-11-26 22:46:51 +0000 UTC]

Muscles are no problem for me. But personally, the body bulder look is repulsive in real life. They look like if they sat on a bobby pin they could pop.

I'm definetely better than I used to be though thanks to a multitude of anatomy books and stark perseverence on the subject. No if I could only draw lanscapes...

I can make a male anatony tutorial, it'll take some time.

How about we skip the human sacrifices...and we make Gummi Bear sacrifices! YEAH!!!

Once again you post a fantastic tutorial. I'll make sure to try this out some day soon, but it does look very helpful, you should really consider your idea about making a book!

wow! Thank you! This will come in handy!

Snigom In reply to Jackalopette [2006-11-26 06:40:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I sincerely hope it enhances your abilities. I have a massive library of Anatomy books. Sometimes, knowing how the muscles look under the skin is fine and dandy...but when the fat layers and skin are placed over them muscle...it takes on a different shape. The Back in particular!

I wanted these to be a point of reference for when you're trying to draw a new perspective and you get "lost" on what should go where. So you memorize these patterns and you'll know "oh, the same distance from here to here, is the same as from 'here to here'" and so-on....

My gawd, I hope this isn't all confusing 8)

Jackalopette In reply to Snigom [2006-11-26 06:44:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I have a few anatomy books myself, and I find it difficult to draw the human back while still showing that there are muscles. This will help me recognize the patterns, and help me make my drawings a little more fluid!

Snigom In reply to Jackalopette [2006-11-26 06:49:28 +0000 UTC]

I have to say that the most influential book is by Stephen Rogers Peck. It's called Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist. He shows fantastic patterns and ideas for remembering anatomy as well as showing how things 'work.'

Any old illustrator told me long ago that the secret to learning human anatomy and drawing, was to search for the patterns hidden with shapes and people. This book really helped me with that!

if its one thing i need work on is anatomy. one thing i dont understand is your grid.what measurements is the grid in relation to ? i try to go by the "head" measurement.

i will be printing this one out.

thanks.

freebase23 In reply to twistedmentality [2008-06-10 18:07:58 +0000 UTC]

I think the genergal measurements work just fine - its really helped me draw women better - and the heart for the lower back - genius - SPANK YOU!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Snigom In reply to twistedmentality [2006-11-26 06:37:31 +0000 UTC]

I need to re-do them with more 'correctnesss' but the grids are showing that at essentially the same height variations you have key anatomy points.

Take the 'back' view for example. It goes from top of the shoulders to the end of the scapula to the end of the rib cage to the begining to the hip 'slope' to the begining of the butt-crack to the end of the buttocks.

Again, when I took the note I wasn't being spot on. This particular sheet here is more of a test to see if these work.

Clearly...it needs more work
